Robert Allan Olson

September 13, 1962 – August 25, 2022
It is with profound sadness that the family of Rob Olson announces his passing on August 25th 2022.
Rob leaves behind his best friend & wife Charna; a love story that began in 1977 when they were 14 & 15 years old and this year celebrated 40 years of marriage.
From this love, two amazing sons were born, Brian (Jenn) & Dylan (Christina). Rob loved his sons more than words can describe. He was so proud of all of their accomplishments & cherished every second he spent with them & their life partners.
Grandpa Rob had big plans for many more adventures with his two incredible Grand Kiddos; Briella & Remi (Dylan & Christina). Remi will always remember Grandpa Rob’s whisker kisses & Briella will always remember riding her dirt bike Grandpa Rob gave her. He was so thrilled that she learned to ride at the tender age of 7. Rob held a very special place in his heart for his two furry grandkids, Shady & Benjamin.
Rob grew up in the West Kildonan area of Winnipeg, and was a talented athlete excelling in many sports.
In 1977 Rob played middle linebacker with the Winnipeg Nomads Football club and received the MVP award. Rob advanced to play Junior football for the East Kildonan Lions & the Winnipeg Rods. Rob was also an awesome Rugby player; selected for the Manitoba provincial all-star team & played goal tender for several years in the minor hockey league.
Rob spent the last 14 years living and working on Vancouver Island.  The warmer climate was conducive to ride his Harleys year-round, sail & thoroughly enjoy the nature & majestic beauty of the Island.
Rob worked hard throughout his entire life. The most recent employment being with the City of Victoria & the movie industry; driving multiple types of equipment for the City & Netflix shows which he thoroughly enjoyed. Rob often joked he drove more miles backwards then most people drive forwards.
To the end, everything Rob did was for the benefit of his family. Working long hard days on the road and never missing a special birthday, anniversary or holiday. Rob was the Dad that stood in line for hours to snag the #1 Christmas list gift for his boys.
And you are all familiar with Rob’s quick-witted sense of humor. The one liners that were perfectly timed & right on cue will be sorely missed.
Rob, Dad, Grandpa – although your life was unfinished, you left us with incredible memories & they are locked in. We carry you with us in our hearts forever.
Cremation has taken place and a small gathering of family and close friends will take place at a date to be determined.

Rob was a dedicated supporter of Wounded Warriors Canada. If you choose to make a donation it would be very much appreciated.

  3. What a beautifully written obituary. It captures Rob’s wonderful spirit perfectly. Some of my earliest memories are of Rob ‘n’ Charna and the boys. I am always so grateful to have had you as neighbours and dear friends growing up. Rob loved to tease me, but I always knew it was because he cared. I miss that! I’m so deeply sorry for the loss of your soul mate, dad and grandpa. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten.
    Love, Angie
    XOXO
