Elizabeth “Betty” “Liz” Newson

Elizabeth (Betty, Liz) Newson, a recent resident of Victoria, BC passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 6, 2014 at the age of 95.

Betty was born in Leduc, Alberta on January 31, 1919, to the late Ignius and Anastasia Pyrch. She met her late husband William (Bill) Newson at Manning Depot in Edmonton, Alberta during WW2 when Bill was in the air force. They were married May 24, 1944 and lived in Edmonton. Betty moved a few years after Bill’s death to be with her son’s family in Prince George, BC where she lived for 19½ years. She then moved with the Newson family to Victoria, BC in July 2013.

Betty devoted her life to being a homemaker and a loving mother and spouse. She loved to garden, play backgammon, and solve crossword puzzles. She also loved dogs. Betty was always quick with a smile and a wave of her hand. Her warm and gentle personality will be missed by all who knew her.

Betty is survived by two children; Carol Newson (Dick Mackin), and Richard (Dick) Newson (Diane), and by two grandsons, Kiel and Taylor. She is pre-deceased by her sisters Irene Lotoki and Sue Myers and survived by her sisters Nadya Gougnin, Caroline McManus, Diana Pyrch, and brother Timothy Pyrch (Jeanette).

The Newson family would like to thank all of the wonderful Community Health and Palliative care givers, and the management and staff at The Victorian on Feltham Road in Victoria, for all of their kind and generous support in her final days.

No service will be held at Betty’s request.
