Don Snyder

We are sad to report that Don Snyder ended his earthly journey Feb. 1, 2022, at the age of 95.
Don had a long and full life. Raised on the family farm near Waterloo Ontario, he served with the Air Force at the end of WW2, training as a tail gunner. His next chapters included working jobs from shipping to seismic. He found the first love of his life, Dorothy, and they married and had three daughters. Don earned his Bachelors in social work, and enjoyed helping at- risk kids. From there, he moved on to his education degree, working as a truant officer before moving to a teaching position.
Always a teacher, he was also a farmer. He and Dorothy bought a farm near Holden Alberta, and that’s where he spent a great deal of time after Dorothy’s early death.
He later met the second love of his life, Twyllia Long, and they enjoyed many years together at his farm or hers. He once remarked, “There are many colours of love, some deeper than others, and I have been lucky to have more than one love in my life”.
A voracious reader, a lifelong learner, a truly wonderful man. We will miss our Dad, Uncle, Brother, teacher and colleague.
Don was predeceased by his wife Dorothy, his longtime companion Twyllia Long, and his brother Austin.
He is survived by daughters Betty Ann (Ernie), Jean (Gary) and Carol (Howard), as well as many grandchildren and great- grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Canadian Food Grains bank (https://foodgrainsbank.ca/donate/).
