Born August 7, 1959, Victoria, BC
It is with great sadness that we announce David’s unexpected passing on February 19, 2023. Born to parents Frederick and Kathleen Schmelzle, David was the oldest of three children. In 1974 David and his family moved to Cumberland, BC. As a teenager David was a volunteer Fire Fighter with the Cumberland Fire Department. David also enjoyed drawing and listening to his favourite albums in his teenage years. One of his favourite songs was “Nights in White Satin” by the Moody Blues. He loved to sign along and had a beautiful voice.
In his early 20s’ David moved back to the City of Victoria. He enjoyed working on Race Cars at The Western Speedway on weekends and being part of the pit crews. It was a family affair back then being part of the racing and excitement, several family members raced on that track. Great memories for the family. Those were his best days.
Later in his life, we lost touch with David and years went by. We did learn that he walked everywhere and neighbours called him “Walking Dave”. He truly had a big heart and helped others out where he was needed.
David is survived by his sister Brenda (Michael), Step-Sister Sandy(Ian), Step-Sister Karen, Step-Sister Sandra(Andre), Step-brothers Billy and Charlie. David also had numerous nieces and nephews. Predeceased by his parents Frederick and Kathleen, brother Jim, Nephew, Jesse.
We know that you are in a “better place” and are no longer in pain, may you Rest In Peace. Until we meet again David.
