Capt. GEORGE ELMS SEARS
Died in Victoria, BC on May 6, 2015.
George was born at home on October 26, 1931 near Sackville, NB. He moved to Moose Jaw, SK in 1947 with his parents and siblings, and worked on the railroad before joining the Canadian Armed Forces.
He joined the Navy on March 27, 1951 and served in the Korean War. During his time in the navy, he served on the HMCS Ontario, Athabasca, Venture, New Glasgow, Oriole, St. Laurent, St. Crois, Qu’Apelle and Restigouche. George retired from the regular force in 1977, and move to Regina, SK where he took his commission and served with the Reserves until 1994. He ended his military career as Petty Officer 1st Class in the regular forces and as Captain in the reserves.
George was a proud, hard-working man who called “a spade a spade, not a shovel.” You always knew where you stood. He enjoyed playing hockey in his younger years, and was avid spectator of most sports until the very end. GO RIDERS!!
George is survived by his six loving daughters, Susan, Fran (Ivan), Sharon (Pat), Debbie (Ken), Terri (Gary) and Maureen (Roberto); 18 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. He also leaves his sister, Mary (Roy); sister-in-law, Joan; and numerous nieces and nephews, plus a large extended family in New Brunswick. He also leaves his step-children, Rob, Curtis and Nancy Amyotte, and their families.
George moved back to Victoria in 2011 to be close to his daughters. He lived very comfortably at the Alexander Mackie Lodge in Langford, BC where he kept the residents and staff on their toes!
He was predeceased by his parents, Sherman and Mabel; brother, Earl; sister, Blanche; and his long-time partner, Sharon Amyotte.
Our family is grateful for these past few years of having him close to us. We will miss you Dad. Sleep in peace knowing how much you were loved.

Please accept our sincere sympathy for the loss of your father, grandfather and great-grandfather. I worked with George for many years with the Cadets in Regina. He was a great person to have around, and never hesitated to assist me if I needed help or advice while working with the Cadets. Bob enjoyed George’s company at many social functions and we both regarded George as a dear and close friend. Rest in peace George, you will be remembered here in Regina by all your friends.

Our condolences to you all on the George’s death. We knew George from the Cadets and I replaced him in supply when he retired. George was a very giving person who assisted one and all when required. I went on many a road trip with George and we enjoyed each other’s company immensely.

My sincere condolences to all of George’s family . George and Sharon were part of a progressive dinner group that Gladys and I were part of for a few years. George’s cooking was always a highlight.
He was supportive of our Museum activities and a great asset in the Mess as an organizer and go to guy. His move to Victoria to be close to his family was Victoria’s gain but left a void here in Regina. He has and will be missed by all who knew him here.

I just found out of George’s passing. George was one of the first people from Regina I met when I worked out of then CFB Moose Jaw doing inventory checks on his Cadet Corps around the province but I mostly got to know him when they were going to close down camp Kelvington and we lived together up there for a short period of time and then when I joined the Cadet Detachment myself. George loved the Cadets and you always knew where you stood with him. May you rest in peace George you’ve always been missed at the Cadet Detachment

I met Mr Sears in 1969 when he was in Sydney Australia working with my uncle Chief Petty Officer Geoff Moore. I became pen pals with his daughter Terri for a while until during a move I lost the box of letters with her address. I remember Mr Sears having dinner at our place and telling us about Canada. I was awestruck at how passionately he spoke of Canada and his 6 beautiful daughters I have thought of him and Terri often over the years and was saddened when I stumbled upon this message with his passing. We lost Uncle Geoff in 1995 and Aunty Dawn last year. I will continue to think of them both fondly and remember the Magic Rocks I was sent as a gift . RIP Mr Sears.
