December 22, 1945 – November 8, 2025
We are sad to announce the passing of Sheila Alverta May Popadynec of Langford, BC at the age of 79. After a brief stay in palliative care at the Jubilee Hospital, Sheila passed away peacfully at home surrounding by many of her beloved family members. We’d like to sincerely thank the palliative care team at RJH for making it possible for our mom to be at home to make her transition over the rainbow bridge.
Sheila was born in Victoria BC to Eva Belle Middleton and James Earl Middleton. She married Vic Popadynec in 1965 and they had a beautiful marriage for 40 years until Vic’s passing. Sheila had interesting careers, including as an assistant in the operating room at the Jubilee, as a cardiology medical stenographer, and as the office manager for Community Living BC. She also had a strong ethic to help community, and volunteered with the Metchosin Farmer’s Institute, Luxton Fair, Luxton Rodeo, Happy Valley School PTA, the KIT (Keep in Touch) program with the RCMP and countless other ways to help. Through her school years, her work and volunteering, Sheila made and maintained many close friendships over the years. Her main hobby was crafting – making angels, ceramics, greeting cards, and pictures. Above all, she was always ready to drop everything to spend time with her grandchildren.
Sheila is survived by her two children and their spouses, Amaiah Paradine (Dennis) and Doug Popadynec (Corinne), her three grandchildren – Jacob Popadynec, Ben Popadynec and Valentine Paradine. She was pre-deceased by her brother Melvin Middleton and is survived by her sister-in-law Alice Middleton (Liverpool, Australia). She is also survived by her sister-in-law and dear friend Jean Weber, her husband Fred and their children and grandchildren. She will be deeply missed by all of us and her many friends and relatives.
Sheila’s Celebration of Life – will take place this Sunday November 16th, from 1-4pm at the Olympic View Golf Club’s Olympic Room. Official business begins at 1:30pm. For more information please contact Doug at dougpops@shaw.ca or Amaiah at 250-744-9555.

Doug Corrine and all the family. (Aunt )Sheila as she was known to us was a beautiful soul. I never knew she wasn’t our blood relative until I was in my 20’s but she was family and that is all that truly matters. I know she will be so happy to be reunited with uncle Vic and they will be living a happy afterlife finally back together. I know that no words take away the pain and grief you are all feeling just know there was a whole community she touched and we are all here whatever you need❤️
