Muriel Iris Sutherland

Mrs. Muriel Iris Sutherland (née Thompson), aged 79, passed away on March 20, 2025, in Victoria, British Columbia, after facing an aggressive form of cancer with characteristic strength and resolve.

Muriel was born on January 10, 1946, in Ottawa, Ontario, to Kenneth and Margaret Thompson. Her early years shaped the thoughtful and determined woman she would become—someone who knew her own mind and held her opinions with confidence.

Throughout her life, Muriel was known for her warmth and welcoming nature. Friends often described her as a positive presence—someone who made others feel at ease. Whether gathered around a table for a game or sharing conversation over coffee, she brought lightness and laughter to those around her, lots of laughter!

Muriel found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved solving crosswords, playing Mahjongg with friends, and enjoying a good game of cribbage. These pastimes were more than hobbies; they were moments of connection and reflection that she cherished deeply.

She shared a devoted marriage with her husband Donald, building a life filled with love and mutual respect. Together they raised two children: their son Dale and daughter Lori. Muriel also welcomed her son-in-law Justin into the family with open arms. Her role as grandmother brought her immense pride and happiness; she adored her grandchildren Conner, Owen, Duncan, and Mara. The memory of her granddaughter Anika remains close to the hearts of all who loved them both.

Muriel’s legacy is one of resilience, kindness, and unwavering spirit. She leaves behind a family bound by love and strengthened by the example she set—a woman who faced life’s challenges with grace and embraced its joys fully.

May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.

No service will be held, a gathering of the Clan will be scheduled later in the Spring.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the BC Cancer Foundation. A Memorial page has been created in Muriels name.
