Michael Llewellyn Houghton

Born in Victoria, BC, January 22, 1934, died in Victoria, BC, October 26, 2017. Predeceased by his parents, Rear Admiral Frank and Kathleen Houghton, and his former wife Gail. Survived by Margaret Wood, his loving partner of 25 years; son Christopher of Ottawa; daughter Alexandra (Ross) and grandson Wynn of Chelsea, QC; sister Kathleen Nichols and her children Michael, Allison, and Cluny of NS.

Born into a naval family, moved to Ottawa in 1937. Michael attended Lakefield College School where he developed a love of sailing and music. Trained as a Midshipman and attended Dalhousie and Carleton Universities.

His interests included sailing, skiing, jazz, car racing, football, travelling, and hockey, which led to lifelong friendships. Mike had boundless energy. He was an entrepreneur who valued resourcefulness and success. He undertook each adventure with spirit.  He was deeply loved and will be missed forever. May he rest in peace.

We wish to thank the physicians, nurses, care givers, and Lesley Chan-Defehr, Social Worker, for the excellent, professional, and sensitive care they provided to Michael and Margaret during Michael’s final days and hours on 6C at Victoria General Hospital.

In Mike’s memory, the family appreciates donations to the Alzheimer’s Society, Cancer Society for malignant melanoma research, or the Anglican Church of Canada for ongoing pastoral care.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 31, 2017, at 09:00 at the Royal Oak Burial Park Chapel, 4673 Falaise Dr., Victoria, BC, V8Y 1B4
