Marion Doreen Rober

April 12, 1931 – August 17, 2022
Marion Doreen Rober passed away on August 17, 2022 in Victoria BC at the age of 91.

Marion was born in North Battleford Saskatchewan, the fourth daughter of seven children to Donald and Nellie McLean. After finishing school Marion worked as a care aid in a local hospital before moving to Vancouver with her 2 siblings, Urla and Madalene. There, the 3 sisters worked and experienced the big city life.  While there Marion met her first husband Allan and they eventually moved back to North Battleford where they raised their 6 beautiful children.

Life on the prairies in the fifties was difficult to say the least, raising 6 children with no running water and an outhouse tor a toilet. Daily chores were plentiful but Marion found time to attend to the needs of her children. Several years later and after an end to her marriage Marion moved her children to Victoria and began working as a nurse’s aid in local hospitals and providing for her children.

She met and fell in love with her late husband Ernie Rober and they married after dating for a couple of years. After graduating as an LPN, Marion worked for several years at the Gorge road hospital until she decided to retire early.

Marion was an avid gardener and could often be found in her garden amongst her garden gnomes and statues. She also loved camping; and you could find them in their motor home almost every weekend out at Jordan River in the late 70’s and early eighties until they decided to buy a second hand antique store in Chemainus BC.

In the mid 90’s they sold the store to settle down in Duncan before moving closer to the family in Victoria. After suddenly losing the love of her life in 2013, Marion moved into her final home at the Cridge Center where she spent her last 4 years. Marion was a long time member of the Salvation Army church.

Marion is survived by two siblings, Sheila (Harry) and Colin, 6 children Louise, John (Lorraine), Barb, Bev (Lester), Ken (Brenda) and Paul (Tami). 17 Grandchildren, 32 Great Grandchildren and 9 Great Great Grandchildren. She is predeceased by her mother, father, husband Ernie, sisters Urla, Madalene, Betty and Helen, her daughter Audrey and her great grandson Spencer.

A service will be held at Victoria Salvation Army Citadel, 4030 Douglas St on Thursday September 22, 2022 at 2pm

The family would like to thank the staff at Royal Jubilee hospital, 6 floor south for their care, compassion, comfort and attention during Marion’s last 2 weeks. The family would also like to thank staff and support workers at the Cridge center for their excellent care over the last 4 years.
