Leslie Payne

Leslie Payne, beloved mother, sister, and grandmother, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2023, at the Royal Jubilee Hospital in Victoria, British Columbia. She was 68 years old.

Born on January 31, 1955, at the Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, British Columbia, Leslie was the daughter of Erica and Earl Dixon. She grew up in Kamloops and attended local schools and traveled around the world professionally figure skating. Leslie graduated with a degree in mental health and began her career as a healthcare worker in Kamloops and Victoria BC for over 40 years.

Leslie loved being a healthcare worker and was known for her kindness, compassion, and dedication to her patients. She was respected and admired by her colleagues, who looked up to her as a mentor and role model.

Her many hobbies included her love and knowledge for plants and wildlife, drawing, colouring, playing pool, outdoor walks, taking photos, swimming, playing mini golf with the grandchildren, camping and creating amazing dishes to share with her family, friends and neighbours.

Leslie is survived by her daughter, Angie Payne, son-in-law Fredrick Kenworthy, granddaughters Madison Kenworthy and Khloe Kenworthy, son David Payne, daughter-in-law Bex Payne, grandchildren Xander Payne and Cali Payne, sister Colleen McKenzie, brother-in-law Brian McKenzie, nephews Blair Mckenzie and Scotty McKenzie.

Leslie will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and colleagues, who will remember her as a loving mother, devoted healthcare worker , and cherished friend.

A celebration of Leslie’s life will be held on Sunday, July 16, 2023, from 12:30 PM to 3:30 PM at Sandbar, located at 177 Tranquille Rd Unit #10 in Kamloops, BC

A celebration for Leslie’s Victoria friends will be held at the Red Lion V-Lounge, Sunday August 6, 2023 from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm.

All who knew and loved Leslie are invited to attend and share their memories of her.

      I still can’t believe that such a lovely soul is gone. I have known Leslie since 1979 in our Tranquille days. She meant so much to me and when I saw her only 3 months ago we talked and laughed like it was yesterday. My hearts go out to her dear family. She loved you so much.     So sorry for the loss of this sweet lady. I worked with Leslie in Victoria in our roles as mental health workers. I was also born in Kamloops so her and I would talk about our connection to that era. Truly ,Leslie was a kind sole and she will be missed by her colleagues and her clients.
