Judith Lynne Murai

Judith Lynne Murai (nee Petherbridge) December 4, 1943 – December 3, 2024

It is with heavy hearts we share that Judy has died after a brave 9-month battle with cancer. Judy went peacefully, surrounded by loved ones.

Judy is survived by her children Joseph (Liz), Kristina (Dave) Osguthorpe, and Tony (Marie); grandchildren Maxx (Alix), Kyle (Kenzie), Justin (Mamiko), Theron, Nathan (Sian), Connor, Eric, and Tianna (Caleb); longtime companion Lazlo (Les) Sandor and his family; siblings Marilyn (Donald) Village and family, Patricia (Joe) Mahoney and family, and Robert Petherbridge. Judy also leaves behind the Hambley Clan, and her dearest friend, Sue Long.

She was a special auntie to Charles Kovacs, Erika Badboud, and their families.

Predeceased by her parents William and Irene Petherbridge, and her first love, Jozsef Murai.

Born in Edmonton, Alberta, Judy moved to Sidney, BC, at age 3. She lived on Vancouver Island for the rest of her life.

Judy was Medical Office Assistant (MOA) for Dr. McLeod for 30 years. She was well-loved by patients of the clinic. She was a proud member of the BC MOA Association, where she also served as Secretary/Treasury for decades. She continued in this role well past her retirement.

Judy was a lovely person who touched the hearts of everyone in her life with her gracious, engaging way. She put all who met her at ease. Judy enjoyed a wonderful life full of memorable moments and adventures with family and friends.

There will be a celebration of life in early 2025 (TBA). In lieu of flowers, please donate to the BC Cancer Society.

Condolence Messages

  1. We already miss our Auntie Judy who was a 2nd Mom to me. Will miss her delicious baking and tea times. Wesley loved being chased around her house, swinging on the hammock and playing with the big bucket of toys. Love to all our relatives, from Erika Kovacs, Imed Badboud and Wesley xox
