November 22, 1939 – April 29, 2025
Ellen Gail Van Dusen (nee Campbell) passed away peacefully on April 29th after a life lived with grace, strength, and devotion.
Born in Ottawa and raised in Brockville, Ontario, Ellen grew up just across the street from her future husband, Richard Van Dusen. Their enduring love story would take them around the world, living in places as diverse as Damascus, Jamaica, Japan, Hong Kong, and finally settling on Vancouver Island, where they spent their later years.
A devoted wife to Richard, and a loving and exceptional mother to Victoria, Richard, and Nancy, Ellen dedicated her life to her family. She was a constant source of support and inspiration, creating a home filled with warmth and encouragement wherever they lived.
Ellen was the proud grandmother of Rebecca, Andrew, Sam, Paige, and Missy, and the cherished great-grandmother of Lilah, Poppy, Cedar, and Hazel. Her love and influence will live on in each of them.
Ellen was admired and deeply loved by all who knew her. Her resilience, kindness, and steady spirit made her a pillar of strength and an example to all who were lucky enough to be part of her life.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, loyalty, and grace, one that will be cherished and emulated for generations to come.
She will be missed beyond measure.

I was so sad to hear about the passing of your mother. I know how much you loved her and were worried about her. I am thinking of you and your family during this difficult time.
Ms. Nancy was like a mother to a group of us in our younger days. She always seemed happy to have us in her home for sleep overs. Memories I will cherish forever. Rest in peace Nancy you were a blessing to all who knew you.
My thoughts and prayers are with the family at this difficult time.

Each day when Ellen would walk past our house to pick up the mail she would always take the time to stop and chat. She had such a positive spirit and a friendly manner. It was a delight to see her joy in her family and the warm, loving relationship she had with Richard. We wish you courage and strength at this time of your loss. Andrew and Tricia
