Duncan Lewis White

In Loving Memory of Duncan Lewis White
April 15, 1970 – December 14, 2024

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Duncan Lewis White, who left us after a battle with colon cancer. Duncan was surrounded by love and gratitude for a life well-lived, even as it ended far too soon.

Born to the late William White and Jacqueline (Foot) White, Duncan grew up in Wolfville, Nova Scotia, and later made his home in Victoria, British Columbia. He was the cherished father of Jasmine and Logan, a devoted brother to Catherine (Les Radvanyi), Jennifer (David Campbell), and Michael (Anne MacDonald), and a beloved uncle to Madeleine and Claire Radvanyi, Flora and Daphne Campbell, and Julia and Cassidie White. He was also a dear cousin to Richard and Robert Fennimore, the late Linda Robertson, Jeffrey and Matthew Foot, and Steven and Lindsay (Foot) Fredericks. Duncan was the loving nephew of the late Richard Foot and Merle MacDonald, Gerald and Jessie Foot, the late Joan and Robert Fennimore, and Elaine Craig.

A graduate of Horton District High School (1988) and Acadia University (1994), Duncan humorously noted he “crammed a four-year degree into six years.” His high school and university days were marked by his love of sports, including playing basketball for the Horton Griffins, the 1989 Nova Scotia Canada Games Team, and the Acadia Axemen.

Duncan’s passion for personal growth extended to mastering the martial art of hapkido. Professionally, he was self-taught in information technology, forging a successful career with ISM Canada, where his expertise and determination were widely respected.

Duncan was a “collector of people,” known for his genuine friendships and ability to connect with those around him. His laughter, stories, and heartfelt conversations will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His friends, particularly those who stood by him during his cancer journey, brought immense comfort to his life.

The family extends heartfelt thanks to the compassionate medical professionals, including his family doctor, Michael Dillon and especially the palliative care unit at the Royal Jubilee Hospital, who cared for Duncan during his final days.

Duncan’s wish was for his loved ones to celebrate his life with laughter, stories, and raised glasses. Two celebrations of life will be held in the future, one in Victoria, BC, and the other in his hometown of Wolfville, NS.

The Duncan White Horton Basketball Memorial Fund has been established, please reach out to Andrewmackay247@yahoo.ca for information on how to contribute.

Duncan, your kindness, humor, and spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew you. Rest peacefully.

  12. Duncan always made me feel beautiful and valued…the flirt that he was. Charismatic, fun loving and courageous are all words that come to mind when I think of him.💜🙏

  13. I’ve known Duncan since 1985. Like or not we were tied three legged style to the adventures of life. High school, university, and The West.

We had a lot of fun together. He was quite different than I but I think that’s why we were such good friends. He would do things I wouldn’t, and vice versa.

Duncan was a resilience fellow. I told him that on a many occasion. I saw him he turn tragedy in to triumph many , many times. He handle his final hurdle with the same pragmatic approach. He did it his way with honour and grace.

On his final days he told me how lucky he felt to just open his eyes and take in the morning. I’ll take this with me as I move forward in life.

Duncan absolutely loved his kids, Jazzy and Logan. And he had the upmost most respect and admiration for his family. He was supremely proud to be a White. He wore it like a badge of honour and I think it guided him well in his adult years.

    I’m going to miss friend.

Rest easy my man. Rest easy.

  14. To Jasmine, Logan and the entire family,
Bill and I only learned of Duncan’s health situation recently and we are very sorry to hear he went so soon. We always enjoyed Duncan’s company, his Nova Scotian hospitality and his sincere interest in others. Gone too soon, we are holding you all in our hearts.
    Bill and Margo

  54. “Collector of people” is the perfect phrase. We were out one night, and Dunc started a pretty loud conversation with some folks; if I’m remembering this right, it was in Korean. Someone at our table asked if we should be worried, and I said “nah, he’s just making friends”. A couple minutes later, he joined their table to ours and translated the rest of the evening. My condolences to your family, too soon.

  55. Hard to hear of someone so young leaving the party so early.
