Dorothea Brealey

It is with deep sorrow we announce the passing of Dorothea (“Sue” or “Susie”) Brealey, age 95, at Glenwarren Lodge, Victoria, B.C.

Dorothea was born in Montreal, earned a BSc from McGill University, and met her future husband while both were working for the National Research Council in Ottawa.  Over the next few years, as the family patriarch was posted to various locations, they produced four children in four different provinces, but eventually the permanent home for the entire family became Victoria, BC.

Dorothea was a self-sacrificing and selfless woman, always putting her family first, not only in the raising of her own children, but no daughter could have taken better care of her own parents, or wife better care of her own husband, in their final years.  Dorothea always loved to be busy and active, whether in her gorgeous garden which she often said was her happy place, or out and about with her bird-watching friends, or enjoying walks in the great outdoors in the summer, and indoor water fit classes in the winter.  She was a lifelong lover and supporter of animals and music.

Predeceased by her husband George Albert (2006), and son Kenneth George (2019).  Survived by sister Catherine Bridger, daughters Carolyn Watt (William) and Elizabeth Smailes (Ronald), her son Christopher (Susan), and her granddaughters Heather Watt (Simon Di Lauro), Erin Blondin (Sean), and Allison Brealey.

Heartfelt thanks to the staff of Glenwarren Lodge for their excellent and compassionate care.  In lieu of flowers, tributes, if desired, to the BCSPCA or Victoria Symphony, would be much appreciated.  A Memorial Service is forthcoming.
