  5. I’m so sorry for your family’s loss Wes and Doreen. I always found Darren to be so warm and friendly towards me in the dozen or so times I have run into him, since the days of Youth Group. Despite us being a few years apart and not growing up as close friends, his kind nature always impressed on me the type character he had and the person he must have been. It always felt genuinely good to run into him. This can be a rare thing. It makes me sad that I didn’t get to know him better than I did, but I will certainly always remember the way he treated me and made me feel. I will miss him.

It is with a sad heart that I write this, as today will be one of the hardest days. I am not able to cross the distance to attend today. I am with all of Darren’s loved ones in thoughts, prayers and spirit. I pray there is an amount of Gods comfort that is found in seeing how many lives Darren touched in such a positive way just by acting in who God made him to be. I will be praying for peace and love to wash over you today and in the days to come. He was a very loved young man with an incredible heart. When reason fails, pray for peace. I will be praying with you.

  48. Danielle (Goodwin) Chamberlain

Dear Doreen and Wes & all of Darren”s family,
My deepest sympathies as you mourn the loss of your precious son/brother/uncle. Words seem so inadequate in light of the loss of his presence, but words are all we have and I hope they bring some small comfort. I went to PCS with Darren for grade 10-12. His beautiful smile and eyes always held a bit of fun and mischief, yet he held a real gentleness and love at the same time. Darren and I lost touch after high school and I haven’t seen him in years, but I want to send you love and prayers because his life mattered and your pain matters and my heart is grieved over this loss. I pray you know the comfort and presense of the God of all comfort.

  49. Darren my beloved close sweet friend, I was late on getting the tragic news of your passing! It has devastated me beyond repair! It will never ever truly, fully, be over the loss of you!Till we meet again, take care of yourself my angel, you’ve always been that one person that stood out from the crowd because you were a ray of sunshine! A diamond in the ruff!❤ And oh how you sparkled in vast world of darkness that we both were handcuffed too!Thankyou for your friendship it was humbling.

  50. Darren was such a nice guy and great to work with. I will miss him and his kind soul.
    Very sorry for you loss.

  51. Shylene Schlackl

I was given the fortune of sincerely feeling the wide spread love and grief of our community in the weeks after Darren passed. Everywhere I went folks asked me if I knew Darren. I never knew Darren personally, but our lives crossed many of the same circles. Didn’t know that he actually lived in my neighbourhood only about seven houses away from The UniTea Home. Over the weekend before his memorial, I was at an event that had set up a wonderful alter to this memory and invited all to contribute to this honoring. I was also walking the neighbourhood when I met Arthur, who was called upon and able to help Darren in his final moments here on earth. I felt so blessed to hear the story of Darren through the words of an elder and stranger who also shared neighbourhood with us both. Now I as learn more about Darren’s untimely death, I am filled with ewe about how much his life has to teach us all. About our rich community, about health and wellness issues, about neighbours and about living with vitality and hope. I send love and healing light in the direction of all who are grieving and unsettled about this loss in our community. I send support and offer support to anyone who wants to talk or discuss this further. With a big heart! blessed be and Dance on Darren – Dance on!!

  52. Maria St. Amand

Dear Doreen and Wes: I found out the news of Darren’s passing this morning when I was reading the paper. I looked closely at the photo of this handsome young man and hoped it was not the same Darren Mann I knew years ago. I was one of Darren’s teachers when he was in elementary school. I also worked at the CDC when you were there Doreen and enjoyed many a conversation with you. Darren was such a gentle, sweet boy. I am so deeply sorry for your loss.

    • Thank you Maria for your condolence. I have just read it having been in Africa since March 5th until now. I appreciate your words. Yes Darren was a very gentle, loving young man and we will miss him very much. Our only consolation is that he is not suffering his pain any more.
At Darren’s celebration of life we found out how many people he had touched in his short life. Our church could not contain all the people who came. They were standing down the aisles and in the entrance area. I did not get the chance to talk to many of them but those that spoke all said the same thing, about what a wonderful loving young man he was.

Leave Your Condolence
