Yvonne Dixon (nee Moar)

Posted By Pacific Coast Cremation On January 11, 2024 @ 8:57 am In Obituaries | 1 Condolence

Yvonne Dixon died peacefully with family at her side on January 8th, 2024 in Victoria BC at the age of 93.

She lived for many years on Vancouver Island (Mill Bay, Victoria) after retiring with her husband, Keith, from Fort St. John. Born in Indian Head, Sask. to her parents, Jack and Kitty Moar, she grew up in Edmonton. She graduated from University of Alberta, married, and raised eight children with Keith.

Yvonne was gracious, caring, wise, curious, adventurous, and very pragmatic. Always the centre of her large family, everyone turned to her for advice.
Once her children were all in school, impressively she immediately took up her own work and personal interests, and the younger children became quite self-sufficient! She launched her own small businesses and led community building initiatives in culture and education in FSJ. Yvonne took risks, even if they involved hard work, most exemplified by the family’s move to Montreal for three years with seven children and another on the way. Building on this experience, she broadened her children’s worldview, instilled them with confidence to try new things, and encouraged them to cherish long-term friends. She enjoyed many close friendships wherever she lived.

Predeceased by Keith, her brother Bob Moar, sister Mary-Wynne Ashford, son-in-law Gabe Scardellato, and former son-in-law Brad Palmer, she is survived by her children Kathy, Pat (Mike), John (Heather), Mike (Shirley), Beth (Kelly), Ken (Julie), Mary (Doug), Judy (Pete), 13 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and her sister Nola-Kate Seymoar.

A memorial will be held from 3-5 pm on January 14th at the Delta Ocean Pointe Resort, 100 Harbour Rd, Harbour Room. The family kindly requests no flowers.

Condolences for the family of “Yvonne Dixon (nee Moar)”

Condolence from Caroline Woodward on February 3rd, 2024 4:55 pm

What an accomplished, energetic and stunningly beautiful woman Yvonne Dixon was–among other things, a designer of homes, a hands-on renovator, a highly skilled potter, an initiator of countless cultural events and, incidentally, a mother of eight. Gracious, diplomatic and quite unfazed by it all, she lives on in her remarkable family and inspires those of us lucky enough to have spent time in her orbit. My heartfelt condolences to all her children, grandchildren and the great-grands too for the loss of such a great lady.
