June 27, 1960 – March 19, 2022

It is with immense sadness and grief that we announce the death of Susan.  Following a courageous battle after suffering a heart attack, she slipped peacefully away from us, surrounded by her loving family.

Susan is survived by Bowman, her loving husband of 39 years, sons Jeffrey (Christine), Jordan (Christina) and Chris (with Jessi), grandchildren Kolby, Chloe and Carter, parents Irene and Stuart Stout, sister Sharon Beaudoin (Ron) and their family, brothers-in-law Gary (Celia), Holman (Gail) and their families, sister-in-law Mona (Mike).

Susan was born and raised in Victoria, spending her entire life here. Susan and Bo worked together at the Princess Mary restaurant where they first met, fell in love, and married on June 11th, 1983. She studied to become a school teacher but ultimately chose to raise their family.  She was dedicated to and loved her three boys, involving herself in all aspects of their lives, from home life to school activities (field trips, hot dog days, sports days), to their sporting life, cheering them on in hockey and baseball (running the concessions, team treasurer, scheduler).  Her greatest pleasure was spending time with her family and routinely hosting family dinners of over twenty people in their small house.  When the grandchildren arrived, she simply adored them.  They were everything to her, and she was to them.  She loved caring for them and never tired of their endless games and antics, always pretending to be fooled, lost, stuck, to their great delight.  The grandkids always looked forward to their Grandma Sue days. Even after a long day with the kids she could still quite often be found at the casino which was her social life and where she had many friends.  Her favourite trip was always to Las Vegas, no matter what other destination was offered.  Susan was the rock of our family, the caregiver, nurturer, organizer, problem solver, decision maker – her loss has left an enormous hole in our hearts and lives.  Although she left us far too soon, it is our consolation that she lived her life to the fullest, filled with compassion and joy. She loved and was loved by so many.  She will be forever missed and in our hearts always.

Sincere thanks to the medical team and staff of CCU and CVU at RJH, whose unbelievable dedication to life, care and compassion for Susan and our family was so supportive.  Too many to list but please accept our deepest gratitude and appreciation.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Susan’s memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association.

At Susan’s request there will not be a service.  Please enjoy the website below as a memorial dedication and to offer condolences or share a story.
