| It is with deep sorrow that I announce the death of Rod Waterman on June 8th 2026 at the age of 74 from interstitial lung disease (ILD). Rod was born in Southampton, lived in Hamble and Netley, UK. When he was 4 1/2 years old, his family came to Canada. Rod lived in Oakville and Burlington, Ontario, until 2013, when he moved to Victoria, B.C.
Predeceased by his father Clinton Stuart (Cliff) Waterman and mother Jean Frances Waterman (née Sunderland). Survived by wife and best friend Nance Thacker; brother Roger Waterman (Diane); sister Sue Messinger (Paul); niece and nephews Tiffany, Jeff, Shaun, and Kyle; grandniece and grandnephews Amaya, Rylan, Ethan, and Connor; and rock star Keith Richards. In keeping with his wishes, there will be no service. To honour him, go outside on a sunny day and soak in its rays and/or make a donation in his memory to any animal rescue organization or Habitat for Humanity. Deep-felt gratitude to Dr Brett Baumann pulmonologist, for his forthright, caring guidance; doctors, nurses, healthcare aides, and staff at Royal Jubilee Hospital, Victoria, B.C., who treated him with such kindness; the compassionate support of Dr. Tiislar, and her assistant who provided MAID (Medical Assistance in Dying) and Nurse Taylor for her gentle, respectful after-death care of his body. In Rod’s own words, “Finally a good night’s rest!” |
