Robert James Allen

Posted By Pacific Coast Cremation On August 1, 2018 @ 12:24 pm In Obituaries | 13 Condolences

Bob passed away in hospital in Victoria on July 17.

He enjoyed a long & successful career in the Federal Government in Ottawa, and was an optimist no matter the obstacles. He was a raconteur able to entertain his listeners with tales from his service with the RCMP, his “funny farm” in Woodlawn, and from his business association with the First Nation people in Northern Ont., following his formal retirement.

When he retired, Bob continued to be a driving force in society.  He volunteered at the Brain Injury of the Ottawa Valley as a fundraiser & their Treasurer.  When he wasn’t at the Bronson Centre, he enjoyed golfing with the “Legends” at Cedarhill.

After raising our daughters, Barbara & Karyn and developing lifelong friendships in Ottawa, we moved to Victoria in 2016.

In Victoria, he joined James Bay New Horizons & quickly forged friendships & volunteered his time once again.

He is predeceased by his parents & daughter, Karyn; he leaves behind his wife, Marion & daughter Barbara.  His sister Pat(Ted) & nieces: Cindy (John) & Linda (Jacques) grieve in Ontario. Bob’s family in BC are his in-laws, Lorraine, Gordon & Joyce & their children, Lee (Susan), Karla (Pat) ,& Kerri (Al) & their children Zakary & Chloe).

The family would like to thank the staff at the Queensway Carleton Hospital, Ottawa & RJH hospital, Victoria for their excellent care during his long post op journey.

A celebration of Bob’s life will be held at James Bay New Horizons, 234 Menzies Ave. Victoria on Aug 11 at 2-4 pm. A Celebration of Life will be held in Ottawa on; Sept. 16 at Cedar Hill Golf Club.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to:

Condolence from Shirley Murdoch on August 3rd, 2018 9:51 am

Our memories of Bob were made in Florida as we were all “snowbirds “ from Canada & the US.
We loved his enthusiasm for life as we golfed,
socialized with “pot luck” dinners etc. His stories
were always entertaining. He was a great guy.

Marion – Sorry to hear about your loss. Bob was a special guy, and will be remembered by his many friends and associates. I remember the time when I assisted in the return of his RCMP kit to the Force.
We wish you all the best, and look forward to seeing you in September.

Marion,
I was so sorry to learn of Bob’s passing. He was an interesting and courageous man. I think about you both fondly and our time together on Stonecroft Terrace. You are often in our conversations here as we reminisce about Canada Day street parties based at the Allen driveway.

I know you will stay brave with your family around you and I look forward to seeing you here on the 16th.

Blessings.
Joan

Condolence from Lanny & Valerie on August 4th, 2018 7:15 am

A few weeks ago I was on le Balcon de Europa in Nerja Spain reminiscing about the times Bob & I sat there enjoying life with a café con leche and a Soberano brandy. Marion & Bob introduced Valerie & I, and were our hosts on our first of several trips to Nerja, Spain. Bob is already sorely missed, for his undaunted enthusiasm, optimism and generosity, and for being my friend.

Bob was certainly a force to be reckoned with …even as he was facing huge health challenges.
His booming voice, his generosity and his dedication to volunteering especially for the head injured will not soon be forgotten.
His love of his family was obvious in everything he did and was a gentleman to all in our neighbourhood on Stonecroft. Our life is richer for having know Bob
