R.H. Doyle Twemlow

Posted By Pacific Coast Cremation Ltd. On May 3, 2015 @ 3:54 pm In Obituaries | 10 Condolences

In loving memory of R.H. Doyle Twemlow who passed away peacefully, at home, on May 3 2015. He was 86.

He was predeceased by his parents Catherine and William and his brother Ted, and is

sadly missed and survived by his wife Mary and children Dr. Diane (David), Dr. Greg, John and Jane (Tony) and his grandchildren Colin and Jeffrey. Doyle is also survived by his brother Bill (Mary), who still lives on the family farm in Aldergrove B C.

He was an accomplished musician with an ARCT in trombone studying music at the University of Toronto and graduated with a Bachelors of Arts from the University of Ottawa attaining a diploma in Public Administration from Carleton University.

After leaving the farm Doyle joined the RCMP spending 25 years, 18 in the band, most of this as assistant band master.

Upon retiring from the RCMP he went on to a rewarding career in the Civil Service as Chief of Personal and then Director of Operation and Planning in the Department of Supply and Service.

Doyle was an avid reader and had a deep appreciation of classical music. He was also a skilled carpenter building two sailboats and a beautiful oceanfront retirement home on Pender island BC. He attributed his ability to build and fix things to his “farm boy sense”.

In the last 10 years he faced with courage many health challenges, including a rare muscle wasting disease and two bouts of cancer. He always attributed the quality of his life during this difficult period to the loving care of his wife and best friend, whom he referred to as his “brick”.

Special thanks to Dr. H. Domke his doctor of many years and the doctors and nurses of the Palliative Care team.

A celebration of Doyle’s life will be held in Ottawa in the near future, date to be announced.

Sorry to hear of Doyle’s passing and his struggles the last several years. We only knew him as a trombonist and assistant conductor along with Herb Blackmann and Charlie Hendricks but wow, all those other boatbuilding skills etc, very impressive, indeed. Our deepest sympathies and condolences to the family.
Sincerely
Don & June Brecknell

Doyle was an important part of the RCMP Concert Band here in Ottawa and undertook many tours to various provinces of Canada entertaining young and old alike. All his coworkers here in Ottawa appreciated his musicality in Band programming and for the classics, which he loved. We send our condolences to all the family members.

Condolence from Michael Ritchie on May 16th, 2015 6:54 am

Was first so sorry to learn of Doyle’s passing in an email from Harold, been getting too many from him lately. I first met Doyle in Duncan BC where he recruited and auditioned me for the band. Six weeks later I was on a train with another recruit from Victoria, for N Division. In the short number of years I knew Doyle both in and out of the RCMP, approximately 9, I always enjoyed his sense of humor and his ever positive attitude.
If one is looking for an example of an exceptional life one needs to look no farther then Doyle. I am and will forever be grateful that he was a part of my life.
Our sincere and deepest condolences to his family and I look forward to seeing him in the not to distant future.
Michael Ritchie

Condolence from Harold Pretty on May 16th, 2015 7:33 am

It was with deep sadness that I learned of Doyle’s passing. I fist met him shortly after arriving at “Depot” Division in October 1957 during which time we were in the band there. Our friendship lasted over the years and I certainly will miss his sharp wit and sense of humour. My sincere condolences to the family as he will be missed.

I was very sorry to see in the local paper, that you had lost your father, Diane. Please accept my sincere condolences to you and David and Colin. Obviously, I had no idea what great life he had – it must have been fascinating growing up under his influence. I know how much you enjoyed your visits out west. My thoughts are with you.

To the Tremlow family: I worked with Doyle in DSS for about 10 years. I loved his sense of humour, his work ethic and his kindness to all his employees. I always hoped to see more of Doyle since we both settled on
the West Coast, but somehow I only saw him once and that was on a ferry.
My condolences to the family at this time.
