Mike was a quiet, gentle man with a love of classical music and literature, and a brilliant mathematical and scientific mind. He was a staunch do-it-yourselfer – a grower, fixer, craftsman and solver – as comfortable restoring a house as reciting poetry. He threw out nothing and could fix anything.
Mike died on April 2 with his wife and creative soul mate of 57 years, Jen, by his side. He leaves his children Bridget (Gerardo), Ben (Kate), Sophie (James); grandchildren Gabriel, Simon, Alice, Jack, Sam, Quinn; and sister Elizabeth. Predeceased by sister Margaret.
Mike was born in 1930 in Burma, to Norman and Kathleen. He grew up in Edinburgh, Scotland, and graduated from the University of Edinburgh in electrical engineering.
Mike marched to a different drummer, and remained steadfast to that beat throughout his life. He was only ever himself, and for that we loved him.
The family thanks the staff at Sunset Lodge for their care. A celebration of life will take place Friday April 6, 3-5 pm, Church of Our Lord, Community Ministry Centre, 626 Blanshard Street. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Society of Canada or Dying with Dignity.

Dear MIke’s family, I have written a snail mail letter but felt, as apparently many people read these on line I’d write a note here.
HOw do I remember Mike, man of few words, but they were words that counted. A very dear and kind man. I am so sorry
