Leona Marion Waldie (née Falkenberg) September 28, 1924 – December 4, 2025
Leona was born in Ponoka, Alberta, on September 28, 1924. She passed away peacefully on December 4, 2025, at The Heights at Mount View in Victoria, BC. She was predeceased by her husband, Adam Clayton Waldie, and her sisters, Naomi Potter (Jack) and Audrey Miller (Cecil).
Leona is lovingly remembered by her children Dan (Wendy), Margie (Larry), Dave (Deborah), Rob (Audrey), and Rich; her grandchildren Michelle, Bonnie, Keyolynn, Kristina, Kevin, Angela, Jonathan, and Matthew; twelve great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Leona spent her childhood on the family farm near Ponoka and her teen years in Edmonton. She trained as a Registered Nurse at the Royal Alexandra Hospital School of Nursing, where she formed lifelong friendships with Margie Bartley and Edith Sykes. The three began their nursing careers at the hospital in Nelson, where Leona met her future husband, Adam. She later continued her nursing career in Vancouver at St. Paul’s Hospital and served as Head Pediatric Nurse at Mount St. Joseph’s Hospital.
During her retirement years in Arbutus Ridge, Leona’s creativity flourished. She became well known for her exceptional skills as a knitter, quilter, weaver, and sewer, generously sharing her many handmade creations with family and friends.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff at The Heights at Mount View for providing Leona with kindness, comfort, and care for the past ten years.
A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring.
