Judith Christians passed away peacefully at the age of 87 on March 2, 2021 in Victoria, B.C. Judith was predeceased by her twin sister Hanna, her brother Arno, three of her children Doreen, Andreas and Martin and Great granddaughter Violet. She is survived by her beloved husband of nearly 65 years, Willy, brother Lothar (Elfie), her son and daughter-in-law Lothar and Bianca, daughter Elena (Bernie), two grandchildren Michael (Sarah) and Angela (Adam) and her four great grandchildren Ayla, Elizabeth, Michael and Adyson, also nieces and nephews in Vancouver, Germany and Australia.
Judith was born in Osterode East Prussia on July 21, 1933 moments after her twin sister Hanna to parents Anna and Emil Frey. In 1954 at the age of 21, she moved to Brambauer, Germany and met the love of her life, Willy, who she was introduced to by her brother Lothar as a friend from work. Judith and Willy were married on December 22, 1956 in Lunen, Germany. In 1957 they welcomed son, Lothar to the world and shortly after immigrated to Canada. The young family arrived by ship in 1960 and settled in Victoria where they began to build their new life in Canada. After three heartbreaking losses, in 1966 Ellen was born and it was then that Judith felt her family was finally complete.
A proud homemaker, Judith took great pride in her home and made it a welcoming place for everybody. She loved needle point, knitting and was a life-long reader and seeker of wisdom and truth. She loved all forms of music and started to play the piano in her 60’s. She was always interested in technology and learned to use a computer in her 70’s, Judith loved to surf the Web, play games and text with family. She always had her iPad with her.
Judith loved the outdoors and camping. She was an avid gardener in her younger years. She could grow anything and had a plethora of plants that she lovingly cared for. Judith was even known to stay up until the middle of the night waiting for her “Queen of the Night” flower to bloom once per year just so she could take a photo. Judith dedicated many years of service to the Victoria Edelweiss Club where she was well-known for her baking and was a founding member of the Edelweiss Club Frauen Gruppe where she made many life-long friends. Judith loved her family more than anything and loved being an Oma, she adored Michael and Angela and gave them a “second home” to grow up in, “the kids” as she referred to them as, would spend as much time as they could with their Oma and Opa playing cards, learning to bake and spending quality time together. During their retirement years, Judith and Willy traveled to Florida and Germany and bought a motorhome in which they travelled all around BC. They also enjoyed being “snow-birds” to California during the winter for many years.
In the last years of her life, Judith got the most fulfillment from being a great-Oma. She was so proud that she had the opportunity to meet all of her great grandchildren and loved them deeply. Judith and Willy loved having Sunday family dinners at their house for as long as they were able to, a weekly tradition, a way to keep the family connected and an “in” to getting as many snuggles as possible with their great grandchildren. It was very important to Judith that she stayed at home with Willy as long as she could and her family made it possible for her to do that. Judith will be missed by all who were lucky enough to know her, and will be remembered for her sensitive heart, infectious laugh and positive attitude. Thank you to Dr. Rosenburg and his team and the nurses and care aids at Island Health for their care and compassion. Due to current circumstances, there will only be a small family service to celebrate Judith’s life.
“When God took you back he said Hallelujah, you’re home.”

Condolence from Daniel Bertrand-Rand on March 5th, 2021 5:11 pm

Willie, Lothar and family.
I am saddened at the news of “Klein Mutter” passing earlier this week.
I was honoured and privilege to have gotten to know her and having shared and exchanged commonalities through the time I visited for our daily care routine.
I will never forget her as she has a special place in my heart and always will.

In abiding kindness,

Daniel

Condolence from Cornelia Jordan on March 7th, 2021 8:41 am

Dear Willi, Lothar, Ellen and the whole Family
My deepest condolences to you all on this loss of dear Judith. She meant so much to so many. I will always remember her fondly; she had so much wisdom she shared with me. I very much enjoyed our visits. Life pulled us apart these last years but she was in my thoughts often. I lost my Oma in July last year and when I saw this today I imagined Oma and Judith hanging out in heaven having a good long visit like they used to. Love and hugs to you all.
