John Lawrence Headley

Posted By Pacific Coast Cremation On April 18, 2016 @ 11:19 am In Obituaries | 7 Condolences

John Lawrence Headley passed away April 18, 2016, just 2 days after his 87th birthday. In true fashion Lawrence would never miss a celebration. He is survived by his wife of 20 years, Diana Headley, stepson Greg Simmons, and step grandchildren Karis and Gavin. No service by request.

Lawrence will always be remembered as a warm, gentle, and gracious man with a witty sense of humour. Born in Birmingham England, Lawrence emigrated to Canada in 1956 and had a 25 year career at Canadian Airlines. He was an active member of the retired employees association, the Pionairs. He was an avid traveller and loved swimming. He will be missed by all his friends from the various associations where he volunteered, especially gardening at Government House. Lawrence was a patron of the Victoria Opera Society and Symphony

Condolence from Enid Eckstein on April 29th, 2016 10:37 am

I met Lawrence at Government House Gardens where we were both volunteers in the same garden area. I was impressed with his faithfulness, his friendliness, and his involvement with various events and activities around Victoria. In addition, I was always interested in hearing about his trips. A fine gentleman who I will miss every time I am at the Gardens. And, of course, our group will miss going to the “Ledge” for lunch with him. May you all experience some peace and comfort during these days of mourning.

Dear Diana and family

I am so sorry to read of the loss of Lawrence the handy man…. He was always a kind warm person that i always enjoyed seeing and serving. He came in to see me at The Royal Scot about 6 months ago and it was a thrill for me as it had been about a year since our last chat. I will be finished at Jonathans some time in May due to health reasons but do wish you all the best and good health Diana and it was always a pleasure to serve you as well. He was a real gem. kelly

Dear Diana:

My sincerest sympathy to you in the loss of dear Lawrence. My fond memories were watching him gardening around our Church; St. Andrews Presbyterian. When you sold your home I would often see him walking throughout James Bay; we had many wonderful chats and updates. I am only sorry that I did not get to visit him at The Wellsley. My thoughts and love are with you at the difficult time.

Sincerely,
Marilyn Bullock

Dear Diana —
Such a shock to hear this news on arrival from our long trip April 30. I will always remember Lawrence as he was when we 3 met for dinners in Vancouver: delightful company and a pleasure to know. My thoughts continue to be with you and Gregory, and will try again to reach you by phone.
Love & hugs — Elsie

My husband and I enjoyed working with Lawrence each month as we set up for the breakfast the next day for those in need. We at St. Andrews Presbyterian were fortunate to have Lawrence’s faithful help and to enjoy his company when we stopped for tea. He is missed.
Sincere sympathies to you Diana and your family

My condolences to everyone remembering Lawrence this time of year. I have fond memories of seeing Lawrence every 2-3 weeks, going to the ballet with him, visiting him in the hospital. I can imagine him wherever he is enjoying his green tea right now. 🙂
