John David “Dave” Gould

Posted By Pacific Coast Cremation On October 17, 2016 @ 4:08 pm In Obituaries | 42 Condolences

November 10, 1943 – October 16, 2016

Dave passed away in Victoria, BC after an 18 year battle with cancer.  Born in Westlock , AB to Otis and Virginia Gould, he grew up and attended school in Barrhead and Hinton, AB.  Predeceased by his parents and step-mom Jennie Gould, Dave is survived by his beloved wife Sandi; his daughter Terra (Bert) Warmerdam and his son Shannon Gould; grand-children Destiny and Justin Warmerdam and Mariah, Tori and Darcy Gould and Lena Borle; his siblings Jim Gould, Marg St. Jean (Darrell Harris) and Beth (Art) Brochu; brothers-in-law Tom (Loveron) Zibin and Larry (Nina) Zibin and many nieces and nephews.

Dave joined the military at 17 years of age serving with the Princess Patricia Canadian Light Infantry in peace-making and peace-keeping roles in Germany, Cypress and Egypt, retiring at age 40.  His second career with The Co-operators and Sovereign General Insurance Companies brought him to Kelowna, BC where he met and married his soul-mate Sandi launching the best 22 years of their lives.

Dave loved running, cycling and sailing.   His zest for life, travel, and learning took him many places; a family wedding in Bulgaria, a life-changing trip to Israel; a local community college where he was the “old guy” in class learning how to service the diesel engine on his sailboat.

A life lived full throttle became a life lived completely when Dave passed from our presence into the arms of his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.  We would like to thank the wonderful doctors and nurses at the BC Cancer Agency, Victoria Hospice and Community Health.  Rest in peace my darling.

Cremation will be followed by a Celebration of Life at Bethel Mennonite Church, 24687 56 Ave., Langley, BC, at 1:30 p.m., on Saturday, October 22, 2016.

Condolence from Warren Stefanuk on October 18th, 2016 9:02 am

Deepest condolences to the family. As a young infantry officer trainee, Dave was our Sergeant Major. He was deeply admired and respected by us all. When I was transferred to 1 PPCLI, I had the good fortune to be posted to the same company as Dave. He offered wise counsel and guidance whenever required. Our company had high morale and strong discipline under Dave’s leadership. We were on the colour party together during a trooping of the colours. We had many laughs.
Dave was a soldier’s soldier. Rest in Peace Sergeant Major

Condolence from Grant McLean on October 18th, 2016 7:42 pm

Met Dave at Ranger School in 1972 and what a brave and determined soldier he turned out to be. It turned out that he had broken his foot and had to be sent back to Canada in a cast.
We met again at the Canadian Airborne Regiment and what a leader he turned out to be. I wish that we had more stand up soldiers like him.
Met him again in Airdrie, got together a few times and told a few lies and then lost track of him.
To Sandi and the family I am most sorry for your loss and the death of a great soldier who served our country well. My thoughts are with you.

May I add my sincere sympathy to that of many who knew Dave? Dave and I served together with First Battalion Princess Patricia’s, in 1968 in Cyprus.
Dave and I were in the same tent in HQ Company on the hill. Dave was a life Guard at 5 mile Beach, During that time as life guard Dave saved our Padres life who was drifting out to sea, as he had got out of his of his depth and could not make it back to shore. Dave and I crossed paths from time to time during our service he will be missed..
Please accept my heartfelt condolences in this hour of sorrow.
Very Sincerely
J.Nicholl

Dave – We salute you, Captain of Antares, to a life well lived, with an adventurous spirit, a generous soul and a loving heart. We will miss you!

“A few who watched me sail away
Will miss my craft from the busy bay
Some friendly barques were anchored near
Some loving souls my heart held dear
In silent sorrow will drop a tear
But I shall have peacefully furled my sail
In mooring sheltered from the storm and gale
And greeted friends who sailed before”

Sandi, We are so sorry to hear of Dave’s passing. He was such a wonderful man who helped us through the trauma of the Kelowna fire by being so respectful and fair. The former live dying; the latter die living.” Our deepest condolences,

Condolence from Steve Koehle on November 1st, 2016 12:50 am

Sandi, I was so saddened to learn of your terrible loss. Dave was such a kind and nice guy – and so darned handsome!
I have often thought of the day, shortly before your retirement, when you and I chatted in the sun outside the Business building. You told me that you and Dave were going to spend as much time – and as much quality time – together as life would give you. I thought then, as I think now, “What a great decision, and what a great couple.”
Steve Koehle

P.S. If you ever need a break from Victoria, we’re just up the road in Nanoose. Come and see us.

Condolence from Clara Poitras on November 22nd, 2016 9:36 pm

Condolence from George Collier on December 6th, 2016 11:39 pm

Sandi and family. My name is George Collier. Dave and I went through Basic training together in 1960 in Edmonton and transferred to Victoria in May of that year. Marcel Borle was also a friend of Dave. Marcel and I want to extend our thoughts and prayers to you on his passing. We had been talking about him just recently and where he ended up. We were all young men who formed a bond that lasts forever even though we became separated as life takes its course.
Marcel lives in Edmonton and I live in Nova Scotia.
We are so sorry for your loss

Condolence from Ken Malcolm on December 11th, 2016 12:09 pm

I just wanted to say how much I loved Dave…he still is and will always be one of the most authentic human beings I have ever had the great pleasure to call a friend. His honesty and integrity and above all his love for his beautiful wife Sandy eminated from him.
Words cannot describe the sadness I am feeling now. I have been thinking about Dave for quite sometime and today I decided to google his name and found out about his passing, Dave was a man I believe that didn’t need anyone’s sympathy and was good with whatever God’s Was for him.
Dave will always have a special place in my heart and the greatest of memeries never forgotten. I truly have been one of the benificery’s from Daves positive outlook on life no matter how tough things can be in this world at times.
And to Sandy, you were the shooting star in Daves life since looking in your eyes for the first time, I hope one day I will be in such a loving relationship as the two of you shared together.
Love from one “old guy” to another, going to miss you brother from another mother ?
God bless you Sandy ❤️

Sincerely
Ken

PS
Is there a charity that Dave or the family were aligned with? If so I would like to make a donation on Daves behalf. Thank you

Condolence from Sandi on January 8th, 2017 8:19 pm

Ken, Thank you for your kind, thoughtful words. I think Dave would choose the BC Cancer Agency for a charity. God bless you too.
