Condolences for the family of “Jacques “Jack” Dominic Moreau”

Condolence from Suzanne Moreau on January 20th, 2024 5:42 pm

My dear brother, Jack, was a bright and capable man with many interests. He raced for the Victoria Wheelers Bicycle Club and raced his classic BMW cars in road rallies with his wife and best friend Sandy as navigator. Jack was an avid amateur mechanic and spent decades restoring cars and motorcycles. Jack and Sandy took many canoe trips all over Vancouver Island together. His proudest achievement was raising his three children – Jacob, Emmy and Jenna.
Being only one year older than I, he was my first friend and as toddlers we were inseparable. Some of my earliest memories were being with Jack playing in the backyard with our two large dogs, then later with our two cats, Salty and Peppy. I also rode ten-speeds with him on training rides with our dad coaching us along. So many memories, yet he is gone far too soon.
Jack was ever the optimist and I will miss him dearly for his self-deprecating humour, his impish grin and wry chuckle.

A cherished memory captured in a poem I wrote in 1974 as a teen, about Jack and me as toddlers based on a photo of us sitting together on the porch from behind taken by our Mom. Rest in Peace Jackie.

“Dilly Dallying”

With
Sun sitting
we set ourselves on
summer’s step

While
Heat hides horizon
in horticultural
harmony

When
Doggies endeavor
to delight
our daydreams

We
Watch waiting
whimsical whilst
whiling away the while

Who
Plays to pretend
when pups ponder
possibilities of pranks

What
Better business
is bestown upon babies
than balm or bliss

To
Sit in the sun
with heat hitting heights
his arm clasped ‘round me
and mine ‘round him
holding tight

Jack proved to be a strong and true friend I saw him when on vacation here always very attentive to the needs of his family, always ready to play croquet maticulously making sure all the brackets were aligned according to the rules, shucking oysters canoeing all kids across the lake chopping and stacking fire woods. Helping me to fix things on my home. A great guy Full of fun and energy for adventure. Very easy going fellow. A great loss to us all 💞💞💞

So sad to hear of Jack’s passing. We are first cousins and I remember our first and longest visit was when the Moreau’s visited us at the lake in Saskatchewan. How did all 11 kids and their parents fit into that small trailer??? Swimming, games, cards and bonfires every night. So fun. Condolences to the Moreaus and all his friends.

Thank you for that wonderful memory, Janice! That trip was about 60 years ago and one of my best memories, too. I think Mom and Dad would’ve been masters at Tetris if it existed back then!

Dear Cousins. I am so sorry for your loss in Jacks passing. My husband and I were looking so forward to attending Jacks vigil and seeing all of you once again, but circumstance simply didn’t allow it. Mom would have loved for me to be there too, as Jack was her Godchild, and he always had a special place in her heart. Randy and I had the absolute pleasure of having dinner with Jack and Phil last year at Jerry’s. I’m so glad for that memory.
Many blessings to all of you. I will keep Jack in my prayers.
