Jacquelyn “Jackie” Mary Glass (nee Rosman)

Posted By Pacific Coast Cremation On July 14, 2016 @ 3:11 pm In Obituaries | 15 Condolences

It is with a heavy heart we announce that Jackie lost her battle with cancer on July 13, 2016 in Victoria. Born in 1943 in Victoria, Jackie spent her formative years on her much-loved family farm (Donalea) on Mount Newton X Road in Saanichton. Jackie’s work ethic and nurturing spirit fit well with farm life and she excelled in 4-H and assisting with the dairy. Jackie was very proud to be part of the Godfrey clan and enjoyed the numerous family events associated with being part of such a large family. Jackie remained very close with her fellow graduates of Mt. Newton High School up until her passing. Jackie’s knack for numbers led her into bookkeeping and credit where she was employed with Butler Brother’s, Standard Furniture and Doman’s. As her family grew Jackie focused on her family and became the true “matriarch” of the Glass family. Jackie made an impression on everyone that she met and that is testament to the vast number of lifelong friendships that she established and maintained throughout her life. She will be remembered for her award winning baking, her love of family, her iron-will and her giving nature.

She is predeceased by her mother Margaret (step-father, Steven) Winters, father George and stepdaughter Dena. She is survived by her sisters Janet (Ernie) West and Heather (Ben) Brown, her devoted husband Don, her loving children Darryl (Kyla), Darrel, Deidre (Jim) Solberg, Kevin (Teresa), and Ron (Nicole). She had a special bond with her grandchildren Ashley, Kim, Lynsey, Caleb, Thaddeus, Gideon, Hannah, Shae, Hanne, Haydon, Finn, and Kees.

After selling the family home on Willing Drive, Jackie spent her last years’ at Rose Manor. She enjoyed the weekly entertainment and of course developing the new friendships of the fellow residents. The staff of Rose Manor, Dr. Keeler, and Victoria hospice staff is to be thanked for allowing Jackie to get the most out of her final years. A remembrance tea will be held August 27, at 1pm, at the SHOAL Centre, 10030 Resthaven Drive, Sidney B.C. In lieu of flowers please feel free to make a donation to the Victoria Hospice Society.

I’m sorry I didn’t know Jackie in our younger years but we sure had some good times when we finally met. We were looking forward to lots of fun times, but God took her away far too soon. She got me through some tough times and I’m forever greatful for that. She’ll be missed by many. Love you Jack XOXO

Condolence from Nadean Meyer on July 20th, 2016 9:25 am

Jackie was like a big sister to me and we laughed so much about our overlapping families. My Mom, Joyce, was like Jackie’s big sister even though she was her aunt. They traveled together and talked regularly even when neither of them could meet in person these last two years. Jackie shared so much- time, stories, listening and of course her food. We stayed at her home many times and she helped us when we caught salmon and had to preserve it before going on the West Coast hike. She was always ready to help someone and kept us “Americans” down south aware of what was happening in our big extended Godfrey clan. I was so glad to see her almost 2 years ago at her new home and to see her in peace with a great life.

Condolence from Nadean (Erickson) Meyer on July 20th, 2016 9:52 am

Jackie was a big part of my family. My Mom, Joyce was her aunt but they were close, more like sisters. They share stories, traveling times and even in the past 2 years when they could not meet in person, they talked regularly. Jackie kept Mom, the American down south up to date about the extended Godfrey clan. We stayed at her home and once when we caught salmon and needed to preserve it before going on the West Coast hike, Jackie helped us. I will miss Jackie’s laugh, humor, insight into people and have fond memories of many great feasts. I was lucky enough to visit Jackie in her new home and see her at peace with having lived a wonderful life while still meeting new friends. Rest in peace Jackie.

Condolence from Cathy Campbell on July 22nd, 2016 12:25 pm

Difficult to believe, I’m so sorry to read of Jackie’s death.
My association with all of you in the past was primarily due to Don and Terry’s lifelong friendship, and after Terry’s death I lost touch.
I wish I had known that Jack was in Rose Manor as it’s just a few blocks from my house.
As you were young when I knew you, Ive been thinking about some of our fun times…..condolences from my family to yours.

We are so sad to know that Jackie is no longer with us. She will be missed especially her generous nature, infectious laughter and amazing ability to weave together the history and relationships of the Godfrey ‘tapestry’. Our sincere condolences to Don and all the kids and grandkids, and to Janet and Ernie, Heather and Ben. We hope countless fond memories of Jackie’s life will help ease the loss over time.
