Posted By Pacific Coast Cremation On October 26, 2020 @ 3:59 pm In Obituaries | 10 Condolences

1934 – 2020

On October 14, 2020, Helena Davis passed away peacefully at the Royal Jubilee Hospice in Victoria, BC, surrounded by the love of her family. Helena was predeceased by her husband, Bob, and two young sons, Bruce and Barry. She will always be missed by her sons, Gary and Rob (Cathy), her grandson Richard (Kristen) and granddaughter Laura. She also leaves her brother, Harry Walsh, of Rainier, Oregon.

Helena had a determined, giving spirit and she was quick to laughter. She took great joy in dancing, ice skating, bowling, crossword puzzles and reading murder mysteries, and in her youth, she had a passion for playing the violin. Helena was grateful for her 47 happy years of marriage to her husband Bob and her family meant the world to her. She was a generous and loyal friend, constantly sharing fresh-baked cookies and homemade jelly and pickles, and she was known to gift handknit sweaters for the babies of even distant acquaintances. Helena was admired for her strength and positivity and she will be fondly remembered by all who knew her.

At Helena’s request there will be no service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Stollery Children’s Hospital in Edmonton, Alberta.

Condolence from Jody Zenko on October 31st, 2020 8:58 am

Dear Gary, Rob & Cathy, Richard and Laura
Your Mom was an Icon and Historian of Sherbrook. I loved chatting with her and catching up on all the news. Your Mom stayed in touch with so many children of her friends (I being one of them) and it was so nice to have someone to talk to that remembered “the old days”. Your Mom loved talking about her trips to Mexico and loved living close to her boys and the grandchildren. You Mom told me on a number of occasions how well you took care of her. I loved her Christmas letters about the grandchildren visiting and baking with her; she was so proud of all of you. I last spoke with your Mom a couple of months ago and she told me of her struggles, but she still had spunk and we shared a few laughs. I will never forget her laugh.
Sincerely
Jody Zenko, Edmonton

Hello Karen, Thank you for your condolences. We moved Mom out to Victoria a couple of years ago into her condo that she had for 20 years, so it was not as traumatic to move her. It was at that time that we decided to sell the Edmonton house as we all live in Victoria. We will wait until spring to put her ashes next to dad in the family plot. Well Take Care, All the best Gary

Condolence from Toni Ryan on November 3rd, 2020 1:54 pm

Helena was a wonderful friend of many years to my mother Dorothy Ryan and, indeed, to our entire family. She could often be found in our home, in conversation and drinking coffee with Mom. She was included in many of our family’s celebrations, happy and sad. She was fun to talk with and we were always glad to see her. As she spent more time in Victoria, she maintained contact with Mom through regular letters and often acknowledged life changes with honest and thoughtful notes to myself. It seemed as if she would carry on forever.

I am so sad to hear of Helena’s passing. A lifetime of memories, from having the best dressed Barbie the year your mom made some fabulous doll dresses to spending many days each summer with Helena and Pauline at the cabin, and Christmas letters every year.
My sympathies and hopes that you are all well.
Karen

Condolence from Susanne Dietrich on November 19th, 2020 10:47 am

My sympathy on the passing of your Mom. I was trying to call Helena to let her know that Laddie Martin passed away (October 13). I remember your Mom and all the fun we had growing up. Your Mom and mine always found time to get together and have a coffee. She made everyone’s life richer.

Hello Susanne, Thank You for the condolences , and I hope you are doing OK with the loss of your mom. We moved our mom to Victoria a couple of years ago into her condo that she had for 20 years so she did not have a traumatic move. Since we all live in Victoria now, we decided to sell the house in Edmonton at that time. Rob and I have pretty much settled everything now and will wait until spring to send her ashes to Edmonton and bury beside Dad in the family plot at Evergreen. Take Care and all the best, Gary
