Dr. Frederick Stanley Heard (Stan) MD

Posted By Pacific Coast Cremation On January 11, 2023 @ 10:45 am In Obituaries | 10 Condolences

On January 8th, Stan Heard, beloved husband, father, father-in-law, brother, uncle and friend passed away peacefully in Victoria, B.C. at 92 years old.  Stan was born October 30, 1930 to Frederick and Ada Florence Heard in London England.

While he was a medical student at Liverpool Royal Infirmary he met Stella, a nurse, who would become his wife and great support for nearly 62 years. After seven years of family medicine in England they made the difficult decision to emigrate to Victoria.

During his 50 years in general practice he delivered hundreds of babies and cared for generations of patients. He then spent five years as a surgical assistant, before finally retiring at 80.  A keen sportsman, Stan preferred the physicality of judo, cricket, squash, skiing and polo but following one hip and three knee replacements he finally admitted defeat, so took up golf and then waterfit.

Stan is predeceased by his parents, survived by his wife Stella, daughters Sara Helmeczi and Charlotte Heard, son-in-law Christopher Helmeczi, as well as sister Lynne White and extended family in England.

A true gentleman, Stan will be sorely missed.

Stan’s family would like to thank the staff on Ward 7 South at Victoria General Hospital for their care and kindness.

There will be no service by request.

In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to a charity of your choice.

Condolence from Margy Ransford on January 11th, 2023 6:05 pm

I met Dr. Stan Heard quite a few years ago at WaterFit, where Sara, Stella and I and some other regulars enjoyed socializing as well as exercising. Stan was a lovely man, and always interested in what others were doing. Being also a daughter of a British Doctor, I felt an affinity and interest in his career and family history. It is with deep sympathy that I give my condolences to his family.

Condolence from KAREN HARRIS on January 12th, 2023 12:09 pm

Genuine smile, compassionate doctor, family man engaged in life and living.
Long time friend, versatile athlete, and in retirement a succinct comment-ator and great conversationalist in the spectator seats at polo.

Stan is a 4 goal on heaven’s team.

Condolence from Jill Yonge on January 14th, 2023 7:37 am

As you said, Stan was a true gentleman. I was always impressed how he kept cool in the heat of a polo game when others were losing it. He and Rumpole, his horse were a good pair.
Stan had a quiet humour and I shall miss it,

Condolence from Lynne Johnstone on January 17th, 2023 7:17 am

My deepest sympathy to the Heard family. As a former patient I remember him well. He delivered my daughter and was our doctor as well as my late husband, Paul. He lived a very long life and certainly enjoyed his retirement. Lynne Johnstone and Jenn Stone

I was one of Stan’s medical colleagues for many years here in Victoria. He was an excellent doctor, respected by all of us in the medical community for the care he gave his patients. He was a family doctor of the old school, and is sorely missed. God knows we need hundreds more like him. He was also interesting, congenial, and very likeable, with a good sense of humour, and a wicked squash player. Just an all round good guy. My condolences to the family.

Condolence from Claudia Fitchett nee: Rigby on February 14th, 2023 3:38 pm

I was one of the babies Dr. Heard delivered (60 yrs ago), as were both of our children. The most wonderful Doctor, he will be remembered and missed for his great knowledge and bedside manner. Sending our deepest condolences.
