Don Snyder

Posted By Pacific Coast Cremation On February 3, 2022 @ 9:06 am In Obituaries | 11 Condolences

We are sad to report that Don Snyder ended his earthly journey Feb. 1, 2022, at the age of 95.
Don had a long and full life. Raised on the family farm near Waterloo Ontario, he served with the Air Force at the end of WW2, training as a tail gunner. His next chapters included working jobs from shipping to seismic. He found the first love of his life, Dorothy, and they married and had three daughters. Don earned his Bachelors in social work, and enjoyed helping at- risk kids. From there, he moved on to his education degree, working as a truant officer before moving to a teaching position.

Always a teacher, he was also a farmer. He and Dorothy bought a farm near Holden Alberta, and that’s where he spent a great deal of time after Dorothy’s early death.
He later met the second love of his life, Twyllia Long, and they enjoyed many years together at his farm or hers. He once remarked, “There are many colours of love, some deeper than others, and I have been lucky to have more than one love in my life”.

A voracious reader, a lifelong learner, a truly wonderful man. We will miss our Dad, Uncle, Brother, Grandfather, Great- Grandfather, teacher and colleague.
Don was predeceased by his wife Dorothy, his longtime companion Twyllia Long, and his brother Austin.

He is survived by his sister Joan, brother Jim, daughters Betty Ann (Ernie), Jean (Gary) and Carol (Howard), as well as many grandchildren and great- grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and quite a few grands there as well.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Canadian Food Grains bank (https://foodgrainsbank.ca/donate/).

Recalling Uncle Don’s stories during his visit back to his childhood home in Winterbourne, we sat beside the basement fireplace and travelled back in time to the family farmstead. Wonderful summer memories of visiting Don and Twyllia’s farm, he gave hair-raising rides to the kids on his ATV and never said no to a Saskatoon berry crumble. Love from Snyder farm.

Condolences to everyone whom Don ever smiled upon and felt the warmth of his embrace be it a hug or his hand.
God bless Don and his children. He will be forever missed and remembered.
What was the story, that while flying, Don dropped his watch out the bomb-bay door, but later that day he managed to catch it?
Love you Uncle Don, from all of us.

To the family, my heartfelt condolences. My memories of cousin Don are he and my Mom teasing each other, lovingly. He was a quick wit, an awesome storyteller and a kind and caring man. May he rest in peace.
