BARTLETT, Catherine E. (Cathy)
August 12, 1930 – October 31, 2022
Cathy passed away peacefully, with her family at her side.
Born on her grandparents’ farm, Heward, Saskatchewan to Gladys and Jack Livingston.
Cathy grew up in Weyburn, Saskatchewan, the eldest of nine children. Predeceased, in 2005, by her husband of 56 years, George Bartlett. Also her parents, 2 brothers and 2 sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Wendy (Steve) sons, Stuart (Jacquie) and Scott (Bonnie). Grandchildren Ryan (Ashley) Rebecca (Jereme) Chantelle (Kris) Taylor (Jeremy) and Joel (Ashley). Great grandchildren Kyra, Zachary, Makayla, Kingston, Onyx, Reya, Jaiden and Jaikob.
Cathy loved to tinker away in flowerbeds, she was forever spraying her flower beds with deer repellent, that seemed to work nicely, however that didn’t prevent her for grabbing a broom and chasing after the deer that still chose to bed down for the day in one of her gardens.
For 18 years, Cathy enjoyed curling at Victoria Curling Club in the winter and lawn bowling at Gordon Head Lawn Bowling Club in the summer. She managed to accumulate a number of trophies for her tournament wins individually as well as when she was part of a team.
Cathy loved her frequent walks, Inner Harbour, the break water and around her neighborhood, always eager to say Hi to familiar faces as well as those she hadn’t met before. As a local resident in the same house for over 50 years she had a keen memory for who had previously lived in the homes that were welcoming new families.
Cathy wasn’t intimidated by technology, always eager to learn new ways to upload and download files on her computer, iPad or her IPhone, she was an avid Facebook user and loved seeing her friends and family’s various adventures. She enjoyed playing Words With Friends online with friends and family near and far and had a healthy competitive streak in her! She often had multiple games going at once.
She loved getting a good deal, so you can guarantee if something was on sale, she was sure to stalk up. Evidence of that was recently confirmed when we found at least 7 boxes of Cheerios in her basement storage area, I’m not sure that she even ate cheerios. Coupons and contests. Cathy once won a shopping spree, numerous free items, trip to Las Vegas, as well as tickets and trip to Grey Cup to name just a few. In the day as an avid coupon collector, she would stock pile them in a wallet, she kept that wallet in her car at the ready, a few years ago, someone broke into her car and stole that wallet, I am sure they were rather shocked and disappointed to only find some 2 for 1 soup coupons!

When George was still with us for 10 years, they wintered in Mesa, Arizona. They loved to travel, Hawaii, Australia, Mexico as well as eastern Canada were some of the highlights. They also loved to go back home to Saskatchewan and Alberta to spend time with both of their families.
Independent and confident to the end, living on her own in the house that she and George bought in 1966. Cooked, cleaned, gardened, and drove herself around until her sudden death on October 31, 2022 when she once again became reunited with her beloved George. We loved and appreciated you for who you were, we will miss you so much.
I recently read a line that a father shared with his son, it really resonates with me and wanted to share, it goes something like this, “When I pass I want to die with memories and not dreams”. My simple advice to everyone is turn your dreams into memories, live your life to the fullest, you just never know, things can change so quickly.

Condolence from Lesley McTavish on November 23rd, 2022 4:47 pm

Wendy, Stewart and Scott, just found out about your Mom. My thoughts are with with you. When every I think of your mom it brings a smile to my face…memories from your house inWinnipeg, vacations to Victoria when Boyd and I were kids, dropping by unannounced as a young adult and being put up by your parents. Visiting during the Winnipeg Grey Cup and lastly visiting her when we came to Victoria a few years back. Hugs to you all.
