Bruce Evan Geary

With shattered hearts, we are devastated to announce the tragic passing of Bruce Evan Geary, 62. After one of his best waterski runs of the season, on August 28th, in Shawnigan Lake, BC, Bruce experienced a sudden medical emergency that sadly ended his life. He spent his last moments with his close friend doing what he loved most.

Bruce was born on May 23, 1963 in Newmarket, Ontario to Daniel Geary and Carol (Evans) McDonald. He grew up in Aurora, Ontario and eventually moved out west to Victoria, BC in 2001. Bruce pursued a career in machine programming and automation, and spent the last 20 years as a mechanical fitter with the Department of National Defence.

He will be remembered for his love of waterskiing, music, his family, and of course, his dog, Shiva.

In 1995, Bruce welcomed his daughter, Madison Geary, who became the light of his life. Later that year, he married Madison’s mother, Deirdre Thomas. Bruce was an incredible father and cherished his role as “Dad” above all else.

In 2017, Bruce met his wife, Eryn Brett, while doing what he loved most—waterskiing on Shawnigan Lake. Together they built a life filled with love, family, and laughter and married in
2023.

Bruce is survived by his father, Daniel Geary and stepmother Jo Geary; his mother, Carol (Evans) McDonald; his wife, Eryn Brett; his daughter, Madison Geary and her fiancé Dillon Thornton; and his stepchildren Mallory Webster and Brock Webster; Teyah Sweeney, Brendan Sweeney, and Tynan Sweeney. He is also survived by his siblings Sandra Smith, Jill Small, and Jeff Small, along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and his faithful dog, Shiva.

He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew him.

A Celebration of Life will be held on September 28, 2025 from 11am – 2pm at the Strawberry Vale Community Club (11 High St. Victoria, BC). All family and friends are welcome to attend, and a Zoom link will be available for those unable to attend in person.
