It is with great sadness on December 3,2025 Betty Jean Hartwig passed away at the age of 85 with her family by her side. Betty was born on February 22,1940 in Manitou Manitoba to Morris and Lenora Hope the first of 6 children.
Predeceased by her husband Wilbert in 2020 and her parents. Survived by daughters Corinne and Karen (Dave) and son Kurt. Grandchildren Alisha, Dustin,Derek and Paige. Great granddaughter Tessa. Step children Rick(Mitchelle) and Shannon ( Reg).
Brothers Robert, Murray, Lyle and Dwayne. Sister Lillian and all their spouses. Many nieces and nephews.
On September 22,1960 she married Wilbert Hartwig they had a fun and loving marriage for 60 years until he passed in 2020. They moved from Winnipeg Manitoba in 1965 to Victoria Langford and resided there ever since. They made many family vacations back to Manitoba to see their relatives.
Betty was a homemaker for her 3 children and had a few different jobs. She sold Avon for several years and we used to call her the ding dong lady…lol. Also worked at Pacific Flowers. She was an honorary lifetime member of the Langford Legion for all the voluntary work she did.
Most of all mom loved her sports and she was very competitive and didn’t like to loose. Played baseball until she was 60 her position was the catcher. Mom broke many bra straps running around the bases …lol. She curled until she was 70 and had so much fun going to bonspiels and tipping a few with her friends. Also liked to leg wrestle and was very good at it.
Mom and dad’s favourite place to go with their motor home was the Esquimalt Lagoon they would go down there and hang out for days. Mom had a very fulfilling life with lots of fun and had a very easy going personality.
Last 2 years mom resided at the Kiwanis Pavilion where she loved to play cards. She was very well cared for by many lovely people.
She will be sadly missed by many .
We love you mom and rest easy until we meet again.

Sincerest Condolences to Corrine, Karen and Kurt, and Families, on the loss of your Mom. What a wonderful, full of vim and vigor your Mom was. I don’t think there was ever a dull moment, with her enthusiasm in sports, her being a fan with the Shakers and road trips. Betty, Mary and Gigs besties bond, was always a pleasure! Wonder what shenanigans they will get up to now together again and with Wilburt. I also had played ball with her, and yes, she was my Avon Ding Dong Lady too! She will be sorely missed by friends, and mostly by daughters and son, who have had a very close and loving family bond. r.i.p. now Betty, Wilbert’s waiting. Hugs to all.

From one long-time Langford family to another, we wish to extend our condolences to you on the loss of your mother, Betty. Our memories of her extend back to the 1980’s when your family were patients of Dr. Purdon and I worked in his office, through school connections and those many lacrosse games. I have remembered her through the years as a kind, friendly person and caring mother. To lose a parent at any time of year is difficult but particularly at this time of year. Our sympathy to you! From the Williams Family!

Sending my sincerest condolences and big hugs to Betty’s family. I knew Betty for many years through curling and we had so much fun at bonspiels. Especially all the pranks my teammates played on her. She was always a good sport about it and had such a great and infectious laugh! She will be dearly missed by many. Rest in peace Betty and hope you are once again with Wilbert.

Corrine, Karen and Kurt and families,
Our thoughts are with you all during such a difficult time. Betty, you were loved by so many, especially my mom. I have fond memories of your mom when I was a little girl watching her back catch for the Langford Firehall baseball team. Such awesome memories.
