Annie (Anne) Eleanor McMunn passed away peacefully on 21 May 2021, at home, with Kirk and Leanne at her side. The eighth, and youngest child of Charles and Martha (Wood) Wynne, she was born in September 1934 in Manigotagan MB. The Wynne family moved to Bissett MB three months later, and Annie was “home” – she was proud to have grown up in a log cabin in the close-knit gold-mining community where she completed her schooling, formed lifelong friendships, and found her first real job in the mine office.

In 1954, she met a new employee, Ralph McMunn, who had come to work on the underground survey team – they were married in Bisset, 18 September 1955. In 1957, Annie and Ralph took son Kirk to visit Ralph’s parents in Elliot Lake ON where Ralph got a job surveying the townsite. Later moves took the family to Sault St. Marie where Kevin and Leanne were born, then back west along Lake Superior to Nipigon and eventually Thunder Bay, where they stayed for some 25 years. Annie worked at Lakehead Psychiatric Hospital and was an active volunteer – she was largely responsible for bringing the Beaver program to the Port Arthur and Fort William Districts. In 1992, Ralph and Annie moved to Kenora ON, where Annie volunteered with the Kenora Association for Community Living and Club Day Away, and the couple delivered Meals on Wheels. Eventually, Annie joined Ralph as his full-time employee at DST – the “best job” working for the “best boss” – until her retirement in 1999.

In January 2003, Ralph and Annie moved to Winnipeg to be closer to friends and family. They established a great social network and got to know their grandchildren. Annie became very involved with the St. James Assiniboia Senior Center and the couple started doing day trips to re-acquaint themselves with their home province. Annie began attending monthly luncheons with a group of “ex-Bissetters” who held an annual dinner. In October 2008, the Bissett and Area Historical Society was incorporated, and Annie volunteered to organize and publish the first newsletter and became an active participant in the 100th Anniversary celebration in 2005. After Ralph’s passing in 2011, Annie continued her volunteer activities, took trips (including a trip to Churchill to see the polar bears and Beluga whales), and provided support to family members – her older brother Art (Dick) and sister Mary.

In 2014, in her 80th year, Annie decided to move halfway across Canada to Victoria BC, where Kirk and his family had retired the previous year. Within two weeks of her arrival, Annie had joined the Juan de Fuca 55+ Center and never looked back – she found yoga and line dancing classes, a group of friends to walk with, new trips to take (even a cruise to Alaska), volunteer activities  library and knitting), and a beautiful retirement setting in Langford.

Annie was predeceased by her parents, her siblings Charles Jr., John, Arthur (Dick), Mary, and Walter (Cummie), and her husband Ralph. Annie is survived by her son Kirk (Leslie) and grandchildren Victor (Augie), Neil and Ian, son Kevin (Anna), and daughter Leanne, and by her sister Nettie and brother Hughie. Cremation has taken place and at a future date, Annie’s remains will be interred next to Ralph’s in the Bissett Cemetery.
