February 8, 1957 – November 28, 2025
The family of Eric John Dawes is sad to announce his passing on November 28, 2025, in Edmonton, Alberta. He had been battling cancer for some time and after a short stay in hospital he lost the fight.
Eric was born and raised in Victoria, the youngest of three children. He was predeceased by his father, Jack (April 1983), mother, Liz (Jan 2013) and sister, Patricia (Jan 1984). He is survived by his wife, Cheryl in Edmonton and brother Bill (Darlene) in Victoria. He will be fondly remembered as the “fun uncle” by his nieces, Tara von Borck (Fort St. John, BC) and Beth Dawes (Radway, AB) and nephew, Adam Dawes (Sooke, BC) as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews.
He had a lifelong interest in playing hockey and lacrosse. His favourite pastimes were following the Boston Bruins (NHL) and Saskatchewan Rush (formerly Edmonton) of the National Lacrosse League. In his leisure time he enjoyed playing golf as often as he could.
He moved to Edmonton in 1977 and created Majered Drywall, a successful endeavor as certified owner/operator.
When Eric visited Victoria in early September, he had a gathering where he met with many of his lifelong friends and team-mates. A celebration of life was held December 6th at his “office” located at the High Note Bar and Grill in Edmonton.

My condolences to family and friends. I have known Eric since was a young guy playing lacrosse at Saanich. He was a character and lived life his way. He will be greatly missed. RIP my friend.

So sorry to read about this Bill . May his memories be kept alive by the family as a reminisce and laugh about the fun person he was.

Loud Eric… now far too quiet.
You were more than a regular at High Note — you were part of the heartbeat of this place. Your laughter, your voice, your passion for sports, and that big, generous heart filled the room in a way that just can’t be replaced.
You weren’t just a customer, you were a true friend. And you’ll be deeply missed by all of us who had the privilege of knowing you.
Rest easy, Eric. The games won’t be the same without you. 💙
