October 16, 1933 – November 14, 2024
Bob peacefully passed in his sleep just after midnight on Nov 14th. Born to Simon and Dolly Ducharme of Craig Siding, MB. Predeceased by his loving wife Brenda of 63 years. Survived by his children Debbie, Christine, and Tim (LJ). Grandpa to Alycia and Justin. Bob was eldest of a family of 11 and is survived by siblings Marj, Betty, Ernie, Clifford, Marlene, niece Becky, and a large extended family.
Bob enlisted at 17 and served 20 years in the Queen’s Own Rifles of Canada during the Korean war and subsequent peacekeeping deployments in Cypress and Germany. Bob and Brenda married in Northamptonshire, UK in 1958. When Bob retired from the Canadian Armed Forces in 1971, they moved the family to Gabriola Island where they found a welcoming community and built their dream home. Dad was known on the island as whistling Bob (deckhand). He was an entrepreneur before his time, starting up freight delivery, the lumber yard, and water delivery businesses to name a few. In 1989, Bob and Brenda moved to their new home in Nanaimo and retired shortly thereafter.
An honour walk and private reflection was held at Luther Court to send Bob to be reunited with Brenda. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to Luther Court Society https://luthercourt.org/donate-now/ where they lived since 2019.

Bob was a wonderful, fair & colourful character. He was a man of few words, but many deeds and always full of inspiration & encouragement when necessary. I really enjoyed his company & time together on Gabriola & later in Nanaimo with Brenda & my children, Alycia & Justin. There will definitely be a place for Bob upstairs. He was inspiration to all who knew him.

Bobby as I grew up calling my favourite cousin. He was my first baby sitter at 12 years old. He was such a caring, fun cousin Always ready to play with me when I asked him. When he joined the army and left I was so sad but proud of his decision to serve our country. Over the years he always was available to chat and offer advice. We spoke over the phone all the time until his illness got in the way. My prayers are with my coz. I know The Lord welcomed him with a great big grin like Bob always had on earth.
