Mark Edward MacLean

September 1, 2023 by Pacific Coast Cremation 3 Condolences

April 21, 1956 – August 9, 2023

Mark shocked and saddened us all when he died suddenly at home.  His parents, Norma and Doug MacLean, predeceased him but he is survived by his sister, Jer, and brother-in-law, Chuck Williams.

When he was just a kid, Mark started taking things apart and putting them back together.  He’d been fixing things ever since.  When he could drive, it was sports cars and a dirt bike.  Then he discovered boating and enjoyed cruising the local waters and up to Desolation Sound.  He was a member of the Power Squadron and helped new boaters learn the “floating rules of the road”.

He worked his entire career as a mechanic for BC Transit.  After he took early retirement, he slowed his pace a bit.  He liked to read and watch  tv, but he was quietly active in keeping his townhouse community’s property running smoothly, keeping an eye out and effecting necessary repairs.

His friends and neighbours describe him as a humble guy, a true gentleman, and in a world where it is sorely needed, he had integrity and kindness.

There will be a Celebration of Life held on Sunday, September 10th, at Mt. Newton Estates, 7751 E. Saanich Road, in Saanichton, starting at 3:00 pm.

If you’d like, a donation can be made in Mark’s memory to the Canadian Heart & Stroke Foundation.

Very shocked to hear about Mark. We first met in the early 70’s when we both worked together. I stopped in to see Mark every chance I had when I was in Victoria. He was a great friend and always willing to help out when needed. I will miss him.

At 17, I rented a basement suite on Olive St , near George St and met Doug MacLean, Mark was at that time nine years old, but even then took great delight in taking things apart to see what ,and how it worked. We lost contact for a few years, then Doug aand I met again when both of us were elected to office at the Credit Union. In the seventies, Mark started working
at the same service garage. and we spent several holidays together, Hawaii, Las Vegas, travelling thru BC by Corvette. Always kind and friendly and a GREAT sense of Laughter. Very Shocked and So Sorry to hear of his passingI hope you can remember the Good Times,we were lucky to have known him.

As time goes on we quite often loose track of some of our grade school chums, and as it happens we try to connect on those enevitable happy or sad occasions. As that brings me to today as I was looking to catchup on the past few years and chat about the current status quo. I am sad to hear of marks passing, as we spent grade school and many years after with a shared enjoyment of mechanics, dirtbiking, boating, and there may have been a couple of beers. Peace be with you.
