Colin Stokkeland

August 11, 2021 by Pacific Coast Cremation 8 Condolences

June 26, 1952—July 24, 2021

Colin died peacefully at home following a short but valiant battle with cancer. Colin’s mantra was “It is what it is. We just have to deal with it” and he fought with grace until the end. Through every step he and his wife Val conquered each challenge together. They were a true team … separate souls that always worked as one.

Colin was born in Vancouver and moved to Victoria with his family at a young age. He was the oldest of 5 siblings. He took pride in being a big brother and loved them deeply. He played rugby for Oak Bay High then went into the construction industry following graduation. He enjoyed his career as a superintendent on many of Victoria’s landmark buildings until retiring after 40 years.

Colin was truly kind, caring and compassionate. He welcomed everyone with a radiant smile and always gave you his full attention. Colin was a gregarious man who belonged to numerous social groups such as the MDBA, the BOMAGROs, Okanagan Lake Crew, and the Country Rose NASCAR gang.

Colin and Val enjoyed their 17 years together with much love and laughter. They were happiest starting home renovations and never seeming to finish all of them! Colin’s most enjoyable times were spent camping, puttering at home and listening to the Blues while relaxing on the deck with a beer in hand and dogs at his feet.

Predeceased by his parents, John and Alice, Colin will be deeply missed by his wife Val, stepson Cody, brothers Clarke (Maria), Dean (Cheryl) sisters Julie (Terry) and Dawn along with many nephews, nieces, lifelong friends and neighbours,

Special thanks to Victoria Hospice and VIHA Palliative care team. A private celebration will be held in honor of Colin’s life. In lieu of flowers please donate to Rain Coast Dog Rescue. Colin loved his rescue dog Duke. They are both enjoying time together playing ball pain free.

My deepest sympathy to Colin’s family. I met Colin on Homewood construction sites (I am a landscape architect) and those projects rank among my favourite construction experiences. Colin was a true professional – knowledgeable and willing to share his knowledge, calm, friendly and respectful, and generous with his time. I feel lucky to have worked with him. He will be missed.

Colin was a great friend to my brother (Roddy). They are probably having a beer together as we speak. Cheers!

I grew up with Colin as one of the Boys. Dads friends that laughed so hard together and had all the good stories I wasn’t supposed to hear. I keep picturing his smile and think of the laughter he shared with so many.
