Irma Livingstone

July 26, 2018 by Pacific Coast Cremation 9 Condolences

May 26, 1934 – July 25 2018

Survived by her husband of 59 years, Blair Livingstone, son Steven, daughters Wendi and Dana, grandchildren Andrew, Eric, Joshua, Brianna and Zachary and brother Marlow Sloan.

Irma was born in Marble Colorado, attended University of Denver, received a teaching degree and taught school for a number of years. Irma moved to Toronto to establish a family and followed her daughters to the West coast to retire in Duncan. Throughout her life she had a passion for art, was a wonderful painter and we all have examples of her work proudly displayed on our walls. Irma taught art classes, helping many aspiring artists and was President of the Maple Bay Painters group for an extended period of time. Irma loved dogs and treated them like royalty. She avidly supported the local SPCA and volunteered there for many hours.

More than anything, Irma was dedicated to her family. She was an amazing wife, mother and grandmother – truly the glue that held our family together. We are in awe of her kindness, selfless love and consideration. She made us all better and happier people. Even as Irma’s illness worsened, she remained the determined and dignified person we will always love and admire. As we move forward with all of the lessons learned from Irma, we are absolutely positive where she is going next.

On behalf of Maple Bay Painters, I would like to say how sorry we were to hear of Irma’s passing. She gave so much to our club over the decades: as President for some years, as a teacher of workshops and adviser to learning painters, as a gifted arranger of the displays at our annual Art Show. And her art inspired us. She had a delightful sense of humour, and made some deep and lasting friendships which carried on even after she could no longer paint. Maple Bay Painters is indebted to her and will remember her. Our thoughts and sympathy go to Blair and the family.

To Blair and Irma’s family: I am so saddened to hear of Irma’s passing. I considered her a wonderful friend as well as an important mentor in my art journey. I will remember with a smile as I recall the fun we always had when together and the way she lit up the world by her presence!

Dear Blair and family…I have just heard of Irma’s death today and feel very sad. She was my first art teacher and soon became a close friend. We shared many good times …including painting together at my place every week. Although I left Duncan quite a few years ago…I still think of Irma often…every time I pick up a brush actually. I remember her for her kindness, generosity and her great sense of humour. My deepest sympathy to you and all your family.
