Bob passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on January 31, 2017 at the age of 69. He is survived by his sister Donna, children Allan and Anne (Derrek), grandchildren Silver and Scarlett and beloved grandpuppy Steeler. Employed by D.R.E.P. and then D.R.E.A. he used his research and development skills in all aspects of his life, to his love of music and HiFi to cars, coaching his daughter’s softball team and food. His great love for his family was apparent in all that he did. You will be missed forever by all who knew and loved you. Celebration of Life will be held on February 11, 2017 from 1-4 pm. in the Olympic Room at the Holiday Inn located at 318 Wale Rd. in Colwood, B.C. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Palliative Care Response Team at Victoria Hospice

Bob was the kind of person you could depend on and was always ready and willing to help if asked. His attention to detail, his perseverance, and his easy going demeanor made him a valuable asset to the D.R.E.P. lab and to his friends. We shared an interest in audio and building high fidelity systems for many years. Our daily coffee breaks would have several employees from the lab joining us for discussions about the next great audio system we were going to build or modifications to existing ones to improve performance. Whether Bob was playing on our lab softball team, chasing a soccer ball or coaching girls softball, Bob always put forward his best efforts.
He will be forever missed and fondly remembered by all those who knew him.

Bob was my late husband’s best friend and a brother to me. He and Doc spent many hours playing tennis, listening to great music, building things and having deep conversations over a case of beer.
They met at DREP and made an instant connection. Their friendship endured through good times and bad. It was so hard to say goodbye when Bob left for Halifax but we kept in touch and once he moved back to Victoria I got to spend time with him again. He was truly a great friend whom I could count on for anything. I will miss him dearly but he will always be in my heart.

Bob was my neighbour for most of his time in Dartmouth.
He was a good friend and loyal neighbour. I spent a lot of time chatting and visit with Bob in his garage workshop. He loved his children and always looked forward to returning to BC.

I am saddened to hear of Bob’s passing.
I knew Bob from back in the DREP lab in Esquimalt and a few years hear at the DREA lab in Dartmouth. Bob was kind, helpful, good humored and an excellent worker that took pride in his work producing many one of a kind pieces of electronics equipment that we still use at the lab in Dartmouth today.

Bob was a dear friend to me; one of those guys you always could count on. With his Robert Plant hairstyle in the sixties, he had the sound systems to match. He built speaker enclosures with only a skilsaw and a hammer that most people wouldn’t be able to replicate with a full cabinet shop! He was SO MUCH FUN. I was really looking forward to getting together again with “Grieze” when I heard he was back in Victoria (I’ve lived away for 34 years). But that will have to wait now. Rest peacefully old chum.

I had the pleasure of working with Bob for 20 years at the Defence Research Establishment Pacific. We spent many a spring and summer season together on High Arctic expeditions to remote Inuit villages, isolated research camps, and Canadian Forces Station Alert, the most northerly permanently inhabited place in the world. We sailed on Coast Guard Icebreakers, naval supply ships, flew many hours jammed in the cargo bay of a Hercules aircraft, travelled by helicopter, Twin Otter, snowmobile, All Terrain Vehicle, power boat, zodiac inflatable, or 4-wheel drive truck. You couldn’t ask for a better work and travel companion, as Bob was truly a master of many trades, and you always knew that Bob had your back when Polar Bears were on the prowl. One minute he would be helping you rework some electronic design problem, and the next he would be driving a Skidoo, fueling the camp stove, repairing the diesel generator, drilling a hole in the ice, or just telling jokes and stories to keep our spirits high when we’d spend days, and sometimes weeks, waiting for a ship or homeward bound flight to arrive. Those were special times when Bob really shined as a craftsman and adventurer, and I am very glad to have had the opportunity to spend so many rewarding hours in his company. Thank you, Bob, for being a friend, colleague, and terrific human being. Peace to you and all your family.

Sorry I was not able to make it to the celebration of life today due to work commitments.
Bob and I both arrived at DREP from Edmonton at about the same time so shared a common bond. Bob was always friendly and did his best to accommodate the green engineer that was always messing in the electronics shop. Bob and I shared many trips to the Arctic which have been eloquently detailed by Steve Taylor. Bob made a significant contribution to the many DR programs he was involved in over the years. My condolences to the family. I knew Bob during the short period of time from 2000 to his retirement. He was such a wealth of rel-world information and always willing to assist me when asked. Always the gentleman and super proud of his family. He was very missed at DREA when he retired and I know all who knew him will continue to miss him on his passing. Time has passed and such is life. Bob was our neighbor here in Dartmouth and we missed him when he left for BC. He used to sit with us at the bottom of our hill at Halloween giving treats to the little ones so that they not hurt themselves as they scampered up and down our hilly driveways. Unfortunately, through our efforts in trying to get in touch with him, we learned of Bob’s passing today. He had a great presence and when he became your friend he was loyal and true to his word, a really wonderful human being! He will be missed and remembered fondly.
